Revisions and Frame layout changes.

Post by menditsa »

Four weeks ago all our sections had their walks revised with a dozen walks reinstated.
Last week the last section was completed and it's been the biggest cock up I've ever seen.
Not one postie was asked anything about their walks and the planners on their laptops now expect you to drive down no entry roads and walk thro peoples houses and gardens to get to the road behind their property.
Over the weekend the whole office layout was revised to a horseshoe type layout that's been yet another cock up.
Three of the five sections simply do not have the space to work and are falling over themselves.
My old section had 8 out of 17 posties not on duty due to holiday, day off and sickness.
The covering line manager did not know my SPL duty had been removed and I now start at 13.30 on DPR duty not 08.30 :dance
Nice enough guy that was left with 35 before 1pm specials, 24 box collections and 32 customer collections to cover !!!
We are now back to endless trays of mail sat at frames, frames full of mail and tons of non tracked.

So in 3 months I've seen my DO go from clearing 99% of mail / small packets and 100% of tracked for the last 2 years back to the shitshow it was when I came back as an ex postie (left in 1996) as an agency worker to help out over Christmas 3 years ago.

I'm only 3 years away from retirement and it does break my heart to see what has happened to RM since I first joined 33 years ago.
We are no longer "Community Posties" with pride in our job but over worked Amazon robots being micro managed down to minutes by mostly failed posties who moved into management.

New starters are fed a lie that they walk around with a handful of letters chatting to customers. When the reality that they have one loop with 2 pouches each of 16kg of mail plus 22 packets it suddenly becomes a hard graft job they can't handle, hense why so many don't even last a month.
And the new contracts basically state RM can make you work Monday to Sunday starting from 6am to 10pm as they see fit.

If these planners went out on these runs themselves for a busy day they'd be lying on there side half way through the run planning a way to get home as quickly as they could..

So you had been clearing 99% of walks and then had 12 walks reinstated and now the place is falling over? This doesn’t add up, sounds like you’re all taking the proverbial

What is supposed to be the benefit of changing vertical frames to horizontal?

Repetitive Strain Injury I believe, somebody has probably won a claim against RM and this is the answer 🙃

This change by RM actually makes sense. There's less twisting of the body. Throwing in is quicker. 2 people can bag up the same frame and HCT walks, you just chuck the parcels above the column and it's easier to prep. There's not much RM gets right but once you relearn the frame it's better IMO.

It took three decades for this deficiency in the RM2000 frames to come to light? These things don't happen in isolation. More likely the ODM trials have necessitated two people prepping a frame to get it out the door quicker and this is the solution to a problem that never previously existed.

Surely the two people prepping the frame part would only help with the sequenced letters, as far as pulling it out I can see it would help there but can't be much better than each person pulling out their own frames then swapping over, oh hang on is the new way to have a giant frame that encompasses two duties rather than the traditional two ?
That makes sense in a way as I've always thought that a van share duty isn't two duties it's actually one that two people performed.

But it’s ok to stand doing doing IPs for an hour and a half and 5 hour deliveries won’t harm your body? No sorry

I work in this DO- 3 years back we were all clearing so RM took walks away. Then we really weren't so they out them back in, only in the wrong order (houses a mile away in the middle of loops, chunks of houses in the wrong order) so prep is taking twice as long and the sorting is completely ruined
