The question is, where do the savings come from?Perseus wrote: ↑24 Apr 2025, 21:16The biggest reason Newton Mearns is working is because they have 20 duties, all single vans.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑24 Apr 2025, 20:18Interestingly on the Facebook post about the video Jason Perez who I believe is the rep who was lauded as working so well with the managers in launching the early trials has commented that Newton Mearns is only working because the spare staff are clearing up the cut offs every day. Strangely this fact isn't mention by Tony.
It's what we all know double day every day can't be done in a 7:24 or even a 7:48 day. This needs binning off soon and a different plan needs proposing by the CWU or the whole thing is destined to fail.
Only 10 duties a day get all items, so that is split between all 20 staff - 1/2 a duty each basically. The remaining 10 duties of parcels and 1C are again split between all staff, 1/2 a duty each. So no one is doing all mail or all parcels each day - this was their solution to fatigue. If anything, it sounds like they have it better than before (I imagine they cleared office everyday) as they are only doing 1/2 a duty of walking each day and they more Saturdays off. They are basically running with 5 extra staff - so of course it's going to work.

Haha or you could learn to drive.yubin282 wrote: ↑24 Apr 2025, 22:43I presume your a non-driver like myself. Just give us every saturday off, bung the drivers an extra £20 to work saturdays. Non drivers will not be working Saturdays/or won’t be working as many Saturdays as the drivers. Stop coming out with absolute nonsense like “van assistant” and “electric hct”. There is no viable way for a non driver to work Saturdays under this new USO system. Royal Mail wants the savings from this, they won’t be paying non drivers to work Saturdays prepping D2Ds or being some sort of ride along carer for the van driver.
It’s all bollocks anyway and it’s never gunna work, this time next year the public will be lucky to get one delivery per week of mail.
Giving non drivers more Saturdays off simply won't happen. Drivers in our office have already said they will come off driving if that happens 🫣

The union needs to get a grip on reality. Clueless with regard to steps per week. I average 24000 a day so not sure how they get the figure of 60000 a week.

Re: CWU Live - Pilots update - Tony Bouch
The real test of the CWU's partnership model of delivery is going to be when the larger workplaces start it. We all know it won't work because the very basics aren't right. Traffic speeds, call rates, attendance calls, delivery points, duty times, duties, contract variations, travel times and so on, all wrong. The CWU said everything had to be right before it started and then promptly said they had no idea how many duties there are across the operation.
Instead of taking on the regulator and telling it to get back in it's box, the CWU has colluded with the industry and regulator to squeeze more profit out of us. The CWU are the guilty party here. They could stop this all but are so integrated with the business that the certification officer should revoke its status as an independent trade union.
Get out of the CWU. Stop bank rolling their collusion.

Do you think it's a conspiracy and they haven't been losing money. Interested to know, are they cooking the figures.
Is that what you are saying, if so explain how?

Lets be blunt here Mickey. Your historical revisionism is bollocks. You may want to have a look at my reply to you in another thread. Why would a business that is so financially poor spend what little money it has paying the bosses millions. Have you nothing to say about the billions taken out in share dividends?Mickeybrowneyes wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 07:30You talk like the company has been financially profitable for years.tramssirhc wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 07:08The real test of the CWU's partnership model of delivery is going to be when the larger workplaces start it. However that was nearly four years ago
Im sure since then they have significantly decreased or at times halted dividend payouts.
Have they been irresponsible and do bosses get overpaid, yes of course they do.
Is that right, no.
Would the bosses wages cover the losses over the past three years, no.
So currently they are in a financial predicament unless there is something else we dont know.
A struggling company resistant to change harms us, the worker.
Your political points and union bashing doesn't really have any solutions.
Just attacks about privatisation and union failures.
Have to deal with the here and now.

Even if the cwu haven't got teeth anymore they are still helpful to alot of staff with individual problems don't you think, they've helped a lot of colleagues at my depot even stopped bullying.tramssirhc wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 07:08The real test of the CWU's partnership model of delivery is going to be when the larger workplaces start it. I don’t expect it to happen at all, but it would be nice. Yeah, give drivers an allowance I’ll happily earn a little less.thefox wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 08:37I think it's only a matter of time before non drivers are mon-fri,looks like they are already thinking it themselves. They should get an allowance. Why should non drivers avoid potential trips to the office for stupid little offenses with the trimble, driving has become stressful now as we are frightened of putting a foot wrong!!. Two months ago a stupid driver came out of a junction and I had to slam on my brakes which made the trimble go to red, I got pulled into the office and was questioned over that.thefox wrote: ↑25 Apr 2025, 08:37I think it's only a matter of time before non drivers are mon-fri,looks like they are already thinking it themselves. It would be wrong on all levels if they end up having every weekend off and that would create a two tier system which is pretty much already is now with the new and old contracts.
Get them in to prep D2D's or be a drivers mate and take more packets. They will find something for them to do and I'm all for that as most will be. They have said so themselves it will never happen them working Monday to Friday (wishful thinking). Non drivers seem to think they will get an easier ride in all this. They won't because there will be a barrage of drivers that won't want to drive anymore and they won't want that.
