Yes. And passed a piece of legislation that would allow them to simply take the postal industry back into public ownership.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 19:33It isn't very snappy as a title though is it.tramssirhc wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 18:57You need a heading like 'When will the CWU achieve renationalisation of the postal industry now the new labour government has saved the steel industry?'.
Most of Gen Z will have fallen asleep by achieve.
And have they really saved the steel industry?

It's absolutely nothing to do with the nationality of anyone. Where's your critism of the french government holding us to ransom over nuclear power? EDF are taking the piss in the construction of power stations. How about the Italian government taking the piss running trains in this country? It's capitalism and privitisation that are the problem.GRS wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 19:52As this horrific British Steel story has unfolded over the last week or so it got me thinking when the hell will this country’s governments learn. Here we are in a situation where there’s a distinct possibility that this is sabotage as the evidence points to the running down of the steelworks being a deliberate ploy for a foreign state to gain control over our ability to defend itself.
Yet here we are where RM is about to land in the hands of a foreign investor…….and for what reason? That is the key thing - nobody seems to be able to put their finger on why The Sphincter is so desperate to get hold of it. Warning lights should be flashing especially after the present & past government just waved it through as a matter of course. In today’s world the likelihood of an ulterior motive is highly likely.
The current RM board (mind you the current CEO is foreign so won’t give a s**t anyway) and certainly the CWU leadership should be embarrassed that they too are condoning this.

Re: British Steel plant.
The 'unions' in the steel industry fully supported the takeovers of the industry at the time. Chinese investments, and Indian, were welcomed as saviours of members jobs. This nationalisation is about maintaining the ability to wage war. The legislation passed by the new labour government is frightening. However it could save the postal industry.GRS wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 20:12Probably what the Steel Union said at the time of the sell off to this Chinese Company - these Unions are supposed to fight for the best of the employees and future of the business and who it serves not throw the towel in because they’ve been promised they can also line their pockets.TopperGas wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 20:01Just imagine if he does destroy the mail service and we have another pandemic, or even WW3, and there's no mail service left to delivery test kits and the like. As far as the CWU are concerned once the Labour party rubber stamp the deal then it become pointless the union trying to fight it.GRS wrote: ↑14 Apr 2025, 19:52As this horrific British Steel story has unfolded over the last week or so it got me thinking when the hell will this country’s governments learn. Now seeing as how this isn't necessarily about the postal service i will comment.
Your latest belief is that labour renationalising the steel industry could be the saviour of other previously privatised industries?
Hmmm sounds not too far fetched, especially if the nationality of the owner fits the narrative of the time.
Good grief you might finally have one Tramms..... a possibly viable one, well done!
I can see problems with it, in that any uk invested business in said country would be liable to the same thing, but then i guess selfishly you don't really care as long as the posties are ok.
Interesting to see where it goes.

You are old enough and no doubt ugly enough
to know our government selling off all the services here in the UK for a quick (personal) profit is kicking us in the arses now. The NHS, water, public transport, energy, postal service.
Every single one of them has become a massively worse service for the public along with being much worse places to work.

Re: British Steel plant.
It's the rose tinted idea that they were wonderful services and wonderful places to work while under government ownership that's laughable.
I don't think anyone is arguing against the fact that they've somehow found a way to go from awful but cheap to awful and expensive.
The awful part has remained pretty consistent.

It's in the midst of it now and has been for years. They are pushing for private, expensive alternatives to try and relieve the stress on the system of things like operations, emergencies and so on. If you think they have the resources for you in a non fatal emergency you are living in cookoo land.TopperGas wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025, 18:53The NHS hasn't be sold off?Londonsburning wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025, 18:02You are old enough and no doubt ugly enoughto know our government selling off all the services here in the UK for a quick (personal) profit is kicking us in the arses now. Re: British Steel plant.
What about GP practices being bought up by private equity firms?
Taxpayers/NHS money siphoned off straight away as they double the rent for surgeries.

The NHS is overfunded (£192 Billion for 2025) and is in a crappy state because of mismanagement beyond belief.Londonsburning wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025, 19:09It's in the midst of it now and has been for years. Years ago was working in a NHS hospital commissioning AC units and we offered to change a fluorescent tube that had blown as we were up at the ceiling.
Policy dictated an approved contractor had to do the work and we couldn't touch it.
Said contractor turned up, spent 5 mins changing it and left with an invoice for £180 plus vat
And don't blame it on Tory or Labour arguments because ALL MP's from all sides have their fingers in nice earning pie's.
