"Time to sat goodbye"

Well it has come to pass and tomorrow is my last day, i have a weeks holiday and then officially i am gone. 2 weeks short of 18 years and apart from the last 5 years i have to say i really enjoyed my time.
The people i worked with have mostly been fine and some have been great friends, and i hope i haven't been to big a pain to work with.
I've seen job and finish and everything since, i also seen before privatisation and after...... much better before.
Now the last 5 years, or since covid, that's been a different story and the company have used what happened during the pandemic when they fleeced the people of this country for millions by making us the 4th emergency service and putting us at risk while they all sat at home, thanks for that!
The company has managed to destroy the one thing we prided ourselves for "Trust on the doorstep", that ship has now sailed and i suspect it isn't coming back.
Customers have been great mostly and as i am a local postie the problems have been few, they don't want me to go, but i tell them a younger fitter and worse paid version of me will appear and deliver their letters twice or three times a week if they get lucky, lately that's been more than me.
Managers are a mixed bag of half-wits and probably good ones, unfortunately the good ones have their hands tied so they end up as half-wits anyway.
And lastly this forum, i will try to not be a hypocrite and comment on here about anything that is happening after i have gone, frankly it's nothing to do with me anymore.
If i have offended anybody i apologise, and if i haven't i will be amazed. Hopefully i have given good sound opinions with the odd word of wisdom and if someone could take over the policing of people who spread falsehoods on here, while making out like they are the messiah, i would be grateful.
If there's one thing that really grates me that's it.

Definitely keep posting and getting stuck in. Retired workers are as important as all other workers. You are now able to do and say what you want without fear of reprisal from the industry and it's union. Get stuck in and help workers change their world.

18 years is a reminder why people have worked so long at the company. RM used to be a great company to work for back in the day and whilst the pay was never outstanding, it wasn't the worse pay for anyone that had legs and could read plus the terms and conditions then were second to none. That public service that we used to provide will be completely decimated in the future as we transition more towards a glorified parcel company and sadly it's all about the men in suits at the top running off with all the loot.

We will miss your posts on here as you do seem to have your finger on the pulse and speak exactly as you find.

Surprisingly at my age i was offered a job reading gas/electric meters, a lot of former posties work at it, and i accepted very quickly. At the time i had just spent a week delivering only parcels due to staff shortages, it couldn't have happened at a better time.
I am thinking of retiring anyway but will see how this goes and then decide later in the year, i don't see anything positive coming your way in terms of the USO reform so believe it's the right decision for me.
It's a young mans game now and the oldies are going to suffer.
