A man who stole parcels left on the doorstep of a HMO has been hauled before court.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard the thefts were eventually traced to Stephen Lewis.

Lewis, 32, of Willows Lane, Accrington, admitted to three thefts of postal packets during a three month period between March and June, 2023.

He was given a 12-month community order with 80 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £536 compensation and a £114 victim surcharge and £170 costs.

He also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, without insurance, and while over the limit for cannabis.

He was banned from driving for 12 months for these offences.

Susheela Regala, prosecuting, said one of the parcels contained a television worth £469, another contained a World War 2 model, and the third was a delivery of cocktail glasses.

On each occasion, the buyers, who all lived in the house of multiple occupation in Burnley, were told their parcels had been delivered, but when they went to collect them, they had vanished.
