Neil 380 people voting is not representative of 99 thousand paying CWU members.
Neil? Lol are you trying to doxx me? :left: surely any poll is an accurate portrayal of the wider feeling of the people it represents, otherwise they are meaningless.
A poll on this website, only tells you what a section if the users of this website thinks. It has no wider relevance.
Hes had that many usernames no wonder mw got it wrong an been banned a few times.

A poll on here means nothing, remember the deal we all complained about. This forum is only used by a small minority to voice their opinions and by some to try and stir up trouble.
Martin is correct on most points, doesn't mean i agree with what is going on but it is what it is and having the union in the room is better than nobody, just make sure that we who pay into the union are looked after first.
The need for change is apparent to everyone who works in RM it's how it changes that matter, achievable workloads being one of the most important.

However the CWU have to respond to the reality of the situation
.

1. Ofcom have said in their latest position that the USO is financially unsustainable and is losing Royal Mail over 300 million pounds per year.

2. Reducing just a Saturday would only save circa £50 million per year.

Thanks for the update Martin.

But according to Ofcom, January 2024

We estimate that Royal Mail could achieve a net cost saving of £100m-£200m if letter deliveries were reduced to five days; and £400m-£650m if reduced to three days.

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/post/royal-mai ... modernise/

And as for point 1.

Ofcom put the net cost of fulfilling the universal service obligation at £325 million to £675 million a year in 2021/22 and that was based on the potential profits that RM could have made if it was not subject to the USO.

But when you look at the figures something clearly doesn't add up. For example, In 2016, RM delivered 6.7 billion letters and RMG made an adjusted operating profit before transformation costs of £712 million, and after transformation costs, £575 million

However, in the financial year ending March 2023 RM delivered 7.3 billion letters and is making over a loss of £348 million. Go figure why it is making such a loss on the USO now when it wasn't years ago when:

1. the number of letters being delivered are roughly the same and
2. the cost of postage was cheaper. 64p for 1st class in 2016 and £1.25p for 1st class in 2023

But none of this really matters anymore because we both know that RM are hellbent on trying to get rid of the universal service somehow. These pilots are a pathway towards USO reform that will save the company millions and it was always going to happen so that the business can make even more profit.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I will be in Cumbernauld meeting the members and supporting the local rep which has been disgracefully attacked in this article.

The CWU choose 34 out of the 37 pilot sites after consultation. There have been numerous members meetings and Tony Bouch has visited Cumbernauld and had a members meeting.

The problem is that your organisation has no responsibility at all and are free to shout from the comfort of your anonymous positions.

However the CWU have to respond to the reality of the situation
.

1. Ofcom have said in their latest position that the USO is financially unsustainable and is losing Royal Mail over 300 million pounds per year.

2. Reducing just a Saturday would only save circa £50 million per year.

3. In their consultation paper they lay out that if it is not the Optimised Delivery Model then legislation will be required to move Royal Mail to a 3 or 4 day USO.

So the current status quo of the USO is not going to remain. It is currently not working as we all know in terms of quality.

The World wide Socialist Group are calling for walks outs and rank and file disputes. They have hardly any members.

Any walks outs they won’t be in control off it will be the CWU who have to get the members a return to work solution.

For the record we are piloting the ODM in 37 sites to see if it achieves the overarching principles and will only reach an agreement on full USO development if the pilots achieve these overarching objectives.

Any final agreement on USO reform will be subject to an individual member ballot.

In terms of the Pilots only Newton Mearns have gone live. The issues with DTS and the Tops 2000 machine which was not deferring some Mail has now been reported as fixed.

Cumbernauld and Girvan are now planned to go live on 31st March.

However no one should be in any doubt that when an independent regulator says that the current USO is no longer financially sustainable that it will change.

The only options on the table are a speed of delivery option or 3 or 4 day USO which would mean job losses in every function on a much larger scale.

The CWU cannot afford and will not stick our head in the sand and allow USO reform to come in without either piloting it and shaping it so members will benefit from it.

Finally having Polls about having trust in the CWU where 380 people vote when we have 99 thousand members is not in any way a representation of our members thoughts.

I attend dozens of members meetings and the vast majority of them understand that change is going to come we have got to make that change the reset our members need in terms of workload, attendance patterns and restoring quality.

Following my attendance in Cumbernauld we will release a further communication including interviews with members within the unit.

The Truth will prevail.

I am fair game as I knew when I stood what I would face a local rep doing their best is not and we will support from any attack.
I think these are very fair points on the whole, but I have to pick you up on one part.

''will only reach an agreement on full USO development if the pilots achieve these overarching objectives.

Any final agreement on USO reform will be subject to an individual member ballot.''

You have said previously that if the union does not support the reform in its current form and the pilots are not a success then the regulator OFCOM will not commence with the plan without the backing of the union and by extension the workforce.

Has this changed? The tone of this post is that change is coming whether the union supports it or not. On one hand you say that we will only reach agreement on the USO reform if it is deemed to successfully meet various objectives but on the other hand you are saying that the alternative is a 3 or 4 day USO and more job losses.

That gives the impression that it is a bit of a box ticking exercise as youve already shown your hand - that it HAS to happen and the regulator believes it HAS to happen.

That gives us a whole let less leverage if you do deem it unsuccessful and dont want to sign off the reform.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

The workers in Cumbernauld are keen to meet you. However holding that meeting during working time and on the industries' premises is not going to encourage anyone to come forward. Meet these workers outside of work.

The article reports the words of those who have experienced what is happening. The CWU cannot hide it’s failure by calling criticism an attack.

The workers were not consulted about which workplaces were picked. The CWU leadership decided.

Of course the WSWS/SEP are responsible organisations. They are reporting the words of workers who have turned to them in the hope of finding a way to end the CWU’s years of failure. This is not shouting. It is providing workers with a voice when the CWU won’t.

When the CWU defends OFCOM’s vicious attack on workers jobs by repeating the unsustainability of our work that is not ‘reality’. The postal industry is a multi billion pound money making one.

The CWU is not defending workers by simply parroting every word of the regulators attack on our industry. Workers want a different response.

The failures of the industry to meet the standards is not because of the universal service obligation. It is because the regulator and the CWU are allowing the industry to make massive profits ahead of meeting the legal standards.

The WSWS/SEP are not trade unions and do not claim to have ‘members’. They are calling on workers to organise and fight back against the collusion of the CWU leadership which is part of a three way attack on postal workers.

If workers choose to organise themselves it will be for the workers to decide what they do and the CWU certainly will not provide the ‘solution’. The CWU has a shameful history of using it’s full time officials to force workers to ‘get back to work’.

The CWU claim of pilots being the way to understand if the optimised delivery method works is a sham. Workers are reporting that the changes for ODM have already been planned and are simply waiting implementation. The industry actually recruited workers to plan and implement the necessary changes.

Workers are also reporting that the CWU has not been involved in the planning.

When the CWU finally does hold a ballot that ballot will come with a recommendation to accept as there is no other option. This ballot will be to little, too late.

The regulator is far from independent. It is focused on defending profit over workers. The change to the universal service obligation is a matter for the public and their representatives.

The future of postal services is not limited to reduction and the constant support for reduction by the CWU is unique in the trade union movement. Workers compare the CWU’s defence of the industry with what happens in other industries. The RMT would never side with the railway bosses simply because running empty trains does not make profits.

The affordability question is simply about what the CWU can afford. The union is bankrupt. Taking the bosses side is not going to save the CWU leadership.

Polls are polls. The CWU cannot deny what is being said. Workers will not trust an organisation that claims to have 99,000 members in the postal industry. That is simply not true.

Thousands of workers have never and will never attend members meetings. The CWU is not the voice of postal workers. The regulators plans for the industry will not ‘reset’ any of the issues workers face. Without resetting the basics of workers jobs change is meaningless.

Workers look forward to the CWU releasing yet more communications. Indeed the truth will prevail.

Yes. The veracity of sources is dubious.

The article reports the words of those who have experienced what is happening. The CWU cannot hide it’s failure by calling criticism an attack.

The workers were not consulted about which workplaces were picked. The CWU leadership decided.

A person who has been named twice in articles by Rank, has been on FB complaining about being named as they didn’t speak to Rank.

Of course workers weren’t consulted on which units to choose for the pilots. If workers had a choice, no unit would be picked.
So someone who was never spoken to has been named even though no one ever spoke to them?
Yes. The veracity of sources is dubious.
How did they find out anyone's name if no one spoken to anyone?
