Most of those pay rises will be because of the national minimum wage increase, with each company paying slightly higher. Not the generosity of the company.datasaint wrote: ↑09 Mar 2025, 01:20The employee-owned partnership which runs John Lewis department stores and the Waitrose supermarket chain said it was investing 114 million pounds ($147 million) in a 7.4% pay rise for 65,000 workers across the business, while electricals retailer Currys said it was investing 8 million pounds in a 6% increase for 15,000 workers.

It is important to know what other sectors are getting paid in comparison and by how much the minimum wage is increasing.
It is also important to look at each individual company's benefits, like pension contributions, paid breaks, holiday entitlement, etc... if you are thinking about changing jobs.
Most Postmen/Women have been doing the job for years and care about the work they do serving their community. When we hear employees from other companies talk, it's about themselves. When Postmen/Women talk it's mostly about improving the quality of service to their customers.

Because as delivery OPGs we have been underpaid for a long time for the work we do. Delivery should be paid the most as it's the hardest job in RM. Processing OPGs should be paid minimum wage as it's a piece of piss, if they don't know where something is supposed to go they just chuck it in a York to any random DO.

Amazing attitude, so you're on minimum wage, and other unskilled jobs are getting pay rises you wouldn't care or question it?Sean06 wrote: ↑09 Mar 2025, 10:02Why care what other people are earning.we are paid for what we do its simple really if not happy then join one of the others you have just named.datasaint wrote: ↑09 Mar 2025, 01:20The employee-owned partnership which runs John Lewis department stores and the Waitrose supermarket chain said it was investing 114 million pounds ($147 million) in a 7.4% pay rise for 65,000 workers across the business, while electricals retailer Currys said it was investing 8 million pounds in a 6% increase for 15,000 workers.

No wonder RM mugged us off in the last pay deal if they know people like you are amongst us.

Irrespective the gap is closing on postie pay all the time. People seem to just not care any more. What was once a good respectable job is slowly dwindling away.sweepster70 wrote: ↑09 Mar 2025, 10:06Most of those pay rises will be because of the national minimum wage increase, with each company paying slightly higher. What scares you about being inside nice and warm while the majority of us are soaked and freezing to death most of the year.world class male wrote: ↑09 Mar 2025, 19:34really?Londonsburning wrote: ↑09 Mar 2025, 10:26Because as delivery OPGs we have been underpaid for a long time for the work we do. Any update on rumours doing rounds that RM want to take away our delivery supplement?

Probably within 10 years we'll have been replaced by a combination of automation and agency/casuals. With the way RM seem to be going it can only be a matter of time before they look at the widespread use of agency/casuals in DOs. No one assigned to a duty, everyone given a chunk of mail to deliver. It won't be too long before RM bring in a system to work out the chunks for the day. Only having no data for what's going where for manual letters and flats is preventing them from doing that.Londonsburning wrote: ↑09 Mar 2025, 10:26Because as delivery OPGs we have been underpaid for a long time for the work we do. Also probably only a matter of time before RM bring in the widespread use of owner-drivers. Probably only a matter of time also before the lorry work, at least RDC/Superhub <> RDC/Superhub and MC <> RDC/Superhub runs get contracted out, no costs then of maintaining a fleet of vehicles.

It's not a rumour. Martin Walsh has already said that the functional supplements are part of the negotiations.Valentina@1 wrote: ↑11 Mar 2025, 11:26Any update on rumours doing rounds that RM want to take away our delivery supplement?

I think what he said was incorporating it into basic pay - not simply taking it away.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
