Former Newcastle postman Oleksandr Cherednichenko, 25, moved to the UK in 2022, and was found dead in his car in Stanhope
An inquest into the death of a Ukrainian man found dead in his car in County Durham has heard that he took his own life due to 'loneliness'. Oleksandr Cherednichenko, 25, moved to the UK in 2022 after the Russian invasion of his homeland and worked as postman in Newcastle before moving to Bowburn.
Crook Coroners' Court heard he was found dead on the B6295, on December 10 2024. A statement from Police Constable John Morris, of Durham Constabulary, stated that the North East Ambulance Service and the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene when Oleksandr was found.
In the vehicle, a notebook was found in which Oleksandr had written that 'loneliness' was the main reason for his decision. His mother, Olha Sedokova, was present via video-link to hear the heartbreaking words read out in court.
In a statement Ms Sedokova said: "My son led a healthy lifestyle, and he had planned to live a long life. He was learning English, and wanted a British citizenship, and he also liked his job and was happy with his new car. The last communication I had with him was on November 7 at 17.45pm. After that, my subsequent messages were left unread."
Previously, Sam Rees, from Haydon Bridge, who sponsored Oleksandr to move to the UK, delivered a tribute to her friend, saying the shock of his death was 'devastating'. A GoFundMe, set up by Sam, raised £630 to help repatriate his body back to his family in Ukraine.
Jeremy Chipperfield, Senior Assistant Coroner for County Durham and Darlington, concluded that Oleksandr died as a result of suicide.
Speaking to Olesksandr's family, he added: "I'm so sorry for your loss, thank you very much for attending."
