Management have stopped us claiming any OT (even 10 mins) to complete.

If in an office of say 100 walks, 25 needed 10 mins each to complete on a Wednesday
and another 25 needed 10 mins on a Thursday and we did it for nothing to give RM a bit of 'leeway' that's
an awful lot of work the company is getting for nothing.

I don't mind going a bit over occassionally if it's heavy, that's the nature of the job.

But if it's regular, that's because the duty's too big, so I'm damn well finishing on time.

Reasons for not doing overtime:

- You have contracted hours. It's up to management to manage the workload and make sure duties are completable.

- I know people who have booked overtime then been refused payment for that overtime.

- We have a finish time close to 3pm, we can get home before the school rush-hour if we leave on time. If you do anywhere between 5 to 30 minutes of overtime you are at risk of having to drive home in school rush-hour - it's not worth it.

Why is it even being discussed?
1. If you want to do it, do it.
2. If you don't want to do it, don't.
3. If you do it and don't t get paid, even for 10 minutes, next time tell them to stick it.
Anyone saying it's being stubborn is just wrong, plain and simple.
There might be a dozen reasons why cant- you have a contract for a reason; Flexi hours are bad enough, without adding another 10 minutes on top.
It's clear now more than ever, this is exactly the type of thing we as workers need to be putting our foot down on.

RM were the ones that gave loads of new staff part time contracts because it suited them. Less sick pay, less holiday pay and whatever other financial benefits they get from it. If staff then don't want to do OT then that's RMs problem. If they wanted staff in on more hours then they should not have been such stingy money grabbing bastards.

Now duties are 4½+, everything falls apart when the call rate climbs above 40% or the packets go out of control at the start of each month, and no-one can go home until 1557 ticks over. 'Tis a mystery why the only thing staff want to give for the company is the finger.

Then the business done away with that and any sign of a quiet day they used to lapse into oblivion. They can’t have it both ways - give us all extra when it’s quiet and insist we can’t sign out until our finish time but when it’s too busy expect us to stay out and complete our round which they made too big in the last revision.

When I first started I remember some of the others telling me Christmas is a bastard but it makes up for it in summer when its quiet and you can get off early and make the most of the decent weather, then they introduced summer lapsing supposedly to create extra leave opportunities, good idea in theory but then of course they had to spoil it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in working your hours.
There is however a longstanding issue with grown men acting like 'Kevin' from Kevin and Perry when asked to do something remotely out of their comfort zone. We've got people who have angrily fought and complained about everything from SISO, to shared vans, to helping out on IPS, other people doing overtime (when it was available, and for them too!) until they can keep doing the job the way it was about 20 years ago. Some one parks THEIR van in a different spot when covering their day off? Straight to the union about it.
