The Conservatives spent 14 years in government pledging to reduce the number of people coming to the UK but net migration - the difference between those entering and leaving - hit a record of 745,000 in 2022 before dropping last year to 685,000.

Labour said it welcomed the Conservatives "finally accepting that immigration spiralled out of control on their watch".

Lets not let the facts get in the way of your argument :hmmmm
Tony Blair (Labour) in 1997 opened up the borders to everyone and the floodgates is opened up, Left have shut down any sensible debate about it by using "Racist" to enforce their views on others (sounds familiar)
It always does seem to be about racism with people like you, unfortunately. You can try to kid yourself about that but us sensible people should no longer give you the benefit of the doubt.

Hello MJD24 , I hope you are referring to NWpostie and Tman ! They have history just read their many previous posts . My point was when the Conservatives got in 14 years ago they were the Party against Mass Immigration ! The Figures show that never happened . Immigration has increased during their watch . Do i think Starmer and this Labour Party are the answer ... NO . The decline in Britain ,and other European nations i might add , along with the massive Inequality that we can all see now , will not reverse under this Labour Party .So in this case , the Elite control the UK citizens by keeping them in a constant state of fear, by having them focus on an external enemy rather than their actual enemy, which you know, usually tends to be much closer to home in the form of the ruling elites of the oligarchy. Stop allowing the far-right to set the agenda. Their moral panics about Muslims and migrants won't improve anyone's life. We need to shift the focus to bread-and-butter issues that concern us all. A roof over your head, food on the table and money in your pocket.
However , Is there a Party out there to do this ? I cant see one and i guess the UK Public will have no where to go next time out and we will probably see Reform in charge ?

So what's a typical 37 hour contracted postie earning with no overtime.... £25,000?

So you can borrow 4.5x your income for a mortgage loan. In our case a lender would allow you to borrow £112,500. Maybe you are 30 years old and been saving for years and managed to saved £20,000 + your granny just died and you have now inherited another £20,000....

You have a £40,000 deposit and can borrow £112,500....allowing you to buy a property for £152,500....

You might be able to get a 1 bed apartment up north....but down south you are absolutely screwed.

It's not just the wage that's low....it's how ridiculously high property prices are. For a 3 bed family home down south you need £400k - £500k minimum.

Good luck owning a family home unless your wife/husband is a doctor, CEO, lawyer, Union general secretary, or OF model.
Problem is not enough houses built, too many people coming in this puts pressure on housing and rentals, successive government has failed to build more houses and letting more people in the country and allowing them to stay bringing in more of their relatives, in spite making promises to deal with it, Starmer cancelled the Rwanda scheme without an alternative plan, chickens have come home to roost.
Somehow I missed this post. There ARE enough houses being built, the problem is they are either being bought up by landlords to rent out, or as is the case in London particularly, overseas foreign investors buy up all of the real estate as investments and they sit empty.

We do have a problem with foreigners in this country, but it is the rich foreign oligarchs who are causing the real problems, by using the country effectively as a tax haven or to wash their dirty money, not those risking their life to come here on a dinghy.

The old "risking their lives" bit, how come a lot travel through countless safe European countries, where they can claim asylum, but instead get on a rubber dingy? The UK is a soft touch, we could have dealt with illegals trying to enter the country quite easily; it's called the Royal Navy. These people are not immigrants, they are invaders, the great replacement as the indigenous birthrate it in massive decline. Kalergi plan in action. The gov is pushing the country towards a civil war with how they treat foreigners and "people of colour" over everyone else. Anyone remember how heavy handed the system was against the rioters last summer? I remember one mother of 5 or 6 got a prison sentence (a harsh one if I remember) for flinging a beer can at the filth! And just one example of many (two tier policing etc) is the filth ASKED the muslims , could they please go and put their weapons back in the mosque!

Do you ever consider you may have been influenced by certain newspapers and tv stations or internet platforms into blaming all your or our countries problems on “migrants”, and their motivations for that are to essentially divert from the fact that it is in fact those who are richer and growing ever wealthier that we should be directing our anger at?

Immigration isn't the problem
It never has been.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Also you must realise that we need immigration? And that the vast majority of immigrants to our country are not those who cross the channel on boats?

Its so disingenuous or just stupid to conflate the two.

Its a necessity, especially with our ageing population. Yet its just such an easy target for Farage etc to point at immigrants and scapegoat them for everything. All you need to do is look ag the front page of the Daily Mail each day, or watch a few minutes of GBNews, and its just so glaringly obvious that they are literally radicalising so many of our population into believing utter nonsense.

And its not people on this forum who fall for this stuff that i feel angry with, because i can understand how easy it is to fall into the trap of believing it.

I completely agree. Immigration is often used as a wedge issue and people will obviously make that connection between well paid jobs and a lack of housing due to it but it is not the main reason. Not one of those immigrants are responsible for the state of our economy, our schools and hospitals, child poverty, homelessness or inflation but the greedy incompetent people who are running the country. The Tories failed and Labour will fail because it is not dealing with inequality or the fall in living standards.

The rich people in this country are getting richer and richer whilst ordinary living standards are collapsing but the rich don't want us to see it that way so they are selling us a scapegoat. This has happened again and again throughout history.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Yeah, he would be unbiased then. :cuppa
If immigrants are so valuable financially why doesn't every country in Europe (if not the West) cry out for more of them, and why do those same countries warehouse those immigrants often far away from all that work they could be doing?

The problem is the ones who think it’s an ok wage have nothing. They live with parents or a one bed rented flat or room in a shared house. They can’t afford a car and very rarely have holidays. This is actual fact in my area. If we were up north I could live like a lord but try the south where the average wage is £35k
Go and talk to the public and get their opinion. Most will be shocked about the pittance we are paid. Oh well big pay rise in April, let me guess. 2% and big Dave will tell us that’s a good offer and the best you will get as they have no money. :nana :arrrghhh
If I wasn't taking a company pension from another role there is absolutely no way 430 ish quid a week would be practical for me. Sad thing is it's the only jobs I can get despite quals in another industry (due to disability)

So this thread was about how wages aren't quite as good as we all would like, now we have degenerated into a row on immigration.
Not sure how you managed it but well done.
Our wages on legacy contracts is certainly acceptable to me, but i am older and have paid up all mortgages on what i own and can live quite happily on my wages, houses, cars and most other things cost less years ago. My outgoings are less as i age and the nights out are less often and much calmer.
But even i can see how much everything costs nowadays, especially down south, and the cost of property is extortionate to buy or rent. Great for me as i have two of them, not so good for the youngsters.
Not sure how it's solved, we need a party for the working man, used to be labour but they decided to morph into the tories and the tories decided to just rob the country and screw the little man over.
Farage won't back the working man, he's just a far-right tory, so what's left?
Feck all i fancy...... maybe that far left union has the answer.
