Many of my posties here have qualifications. Many at my office went to grammar schools. Especially the old guys like myself who have done many years here. You may not be qualified for anything else but many of us are.
Heard that a lot over the years. Always begs the question of why they would stay rather than do something they're (allegedly) qualified for and for more money.
Most are probably from the Rachel Reeves school of truthful CV's.

So what's a typical 37 hour contracted postie earning with no overtime.... £25,000?

So you can borrow 4.5x your income for a mortgage loan. In our case a lender would allow you to borrow £112,500. Maybe you are 30 years old and been saving for years and managed to saved £20,000 + your granny just died and you have now inherited another £20,000....

You have a £40,000 deposit and can borrow £112,500....allowing you to buy a property for £152,500....

You might be able to get a 1 bed apartment up north....but down south you are absolutely screwed.

It's not just the wage that's low....it's how ridiculously high property prices are. For a 3 bed family home down south you need £400k - £500k minimum.

Good luck owning a family home unless your wife/husband is a doctor, CEO, lawyer, Union general secretary, or OF model.
Problem is not enough houses built, too many people coming in this puts pressure on housing and rentals, successive government has failed to build more houses and letting more people in the country and allowing them to stay bringing in more of their relatives, in spite making promises to deal with it, Starmer cancelled the Rwanda scheme without an alternative plan, chickens have come home to roost.
Absolute nonsense to blame Starmer. Fascinating how the radicalised online right demonise him. And to even mention the Rwanda scheme 😂 😂 good grief!!

£28k not really enough these days. Will be harder for the new joiners. A little bit of ghost overtime used to be a nice sweetner from time to time. Seems they pulled the plug on it for good at our office. Walks too big and mail stays in.

The evidence speaks for themselves and to use "radicalised online right" tells me you are blindly defending Starmer immigration policy, as to "demonising" didn't Labour demonise and intimidate Jews ? The Labour is the new nasty party.

Fact we do NOT have enough houses, extra people have come from somewhere and none of them are born here as it's been recorded that resident British birth rate have been declining, they don't come out of thin air, so the obvious is staring at your face but you refuse to listen, instead you stick your fingers in your ears and go "la la la la"

The Conservatives spent 14 years in government pledging to reduce the number of people coming to the UK but net migration - the difference between those entering and leaving - hit a record of 745,000 in 2022 before dropping last year to 685,000.

Labour said it welcomed the Conservatives "finally accepting that immigration spiralled out of control on their watch".

Lets not let the facts get in the way of your argument :hmmmm

So how long is Starmer and co going to use the excuse of "the Tories being useless has lead to the current situation"?
When does the useless boring automaton start taking some responsibility for his own (in) action? Everyone knows the Tories were useless, but Starmer's had 14 years (as he keeps telling us) to formulate plans for improvement but no signs of any of these wonderful plans and policies yet.
Are there any plans or is he as vacuous and out of his depth as Rachel from Accounts?

Tony Blair (Labour) in 1997 opened up the borders to everyone and the floodgates is opened up, Left have shut down any sensible debate about it by using "Racist" to enforce their views on others (sounds familiar)

tbf It is not just the last 14 years that has created this situation. It started with the Callaghan Labour Government in 1979 which started curbs on pay and unions. It got a lot worse during the Thatcher Government which embraced the Reagan US monetarist policies curbing pay, cutting working terms and emasculating the working class by privatisation, mass unemployment and anti-union legislation, making it virtually impossible for workers to defend their pay and conditions. And it has continued with each successive government whether Conservative, Labour or Coalition.
It's not just this country either, monetarist (unfettered free markets) have been imposed around the world - called globalisation.
The right seek to scapegoat migrants or minorities as usual. But it's the governments we elected who are to blame. And us for electing them.

I always chuckle when I see the ‘if you aren’t earning enough, find a better paying job’ line trotted out. Ok, fair enough, but then who do you expect to fill these jobs? People have a right to earn enough money to house, clothe and feed their families, and even have some spare cash left over to actually you know, enjoy life, even doing what you might consider the most menial of jobs. It speaks volumes as to how brainwashed some of you have become, that you defend corporations over the people working for them earning peanuts.

There is no way of advancing in this job, once an OPG always an OPG unless you go into management. There is no other ladder to climb that I can see.
The wages however are decent compared to a lot of jobs unless you're on a new contract but the minimum wage is definitely catching up to us now as that will be £12.21 and legacy contacts get £14.40, new contracts are about £12.54. my hourly rate 10 years ago was a third higher than minimum wage and now it's about 20% higher.
If I was young and wanting as much money as possible then this wouldn't be the job for me. If your unskilled then I'd go and get my HGV licence as you would end up earning around £800 a week after tax, that is fact by the way because I have friends that do this and they can walk into a job within a week of leaving another. There is such a shortage in this line of work, class 2 Monday to Friday jobs pay around £35k a year which is still £10k more than a 35hr OPG.
