A Cumbrian MP has criticised the inadequacy of postal services in the south of the county.
Michelle Scrogham, MP for Barrow and Furness, has written to the chief executive of Royal Mail, Emma Gilthorpe, to raise concerns over the quality of postal services in her constituency.
Mrs Scrogham said the current situation could not be allowed to continue and requested a meeting to discuss how the company aimed to turn the situation around in the area.
A spokesman for Royal Mail said recruitment challenges have had an impact in the Barrow and Furness constituency and the company was recruiting for permanent positions.
Mrs Scrogham wrote: “Over the last few months I have grown increasingly concerned over the quality of postal deliveries locally.
“This follows receiving complaints from many constituents describing irregular and unreliable first and second class post and parcels.
“Our communities rely on postal services as part of everyday life. I have been contacted by numerous residents waiting an unacceptable amount of time for their post.”
Mrs Scrogham added she had raised ongoing problems with Royal Mail, but added the quality of the service seemed to have deteriorated in recent weeks.
A spokesmsn for the company said: “While no post has been delayed for more than two days, recruitment challenges have unfortunately had an impact on deliveries in the Barrow and Furness constituency.
“We are currently recruiting for permanent positions in the area.
“We are responding to Ms Scrogham’s letter separately and are happy to meet with her to discuss this further.”

RM needs to ask why they're not recruiting or retaining staff and rectify it.
A quick look through this forum should tell them the uncensored reason why they're failing to recruit and take it on board, in the past staff used to be disciplined if they posted openly on this forum as a result they drive members underground and with them their solutions, they have now voted with their feet in quite a few offices bringing us to the situation we find ourselves in.
