Royal Mail customers have been unable to see the status of their packages for hours due to ‘planned maintenance work’ on the delivery company’s website.

According to DownDetector, users have been experiencing problems since last night – but the number increased significantly this morning.

Social media has also been flooded with people unhappy with not being able to track their parcels.

Linking the official Royal Mail account in a post on X, user Andy wrote: ‘How can I use a paid for tracked service if I can’t track a parcel? Been like this since last night..’

Another wrote: ‘Why is your parcel tracking down AGAIN?! 90% of the time it’s not usable on app or site.’

On the Royal Mail website’s ‘track your item’ page, visitors are told ‘service temporarily unavailable’.

The site reads: ‘We’re sorry our service is temporarily unavailable. We are working on fixing the problem.

‘Thank you for your patience.’

A spokesperson for the company said: ‘Online data for our tracking services is temporarily unavailable due to planned maintenance work today.

‘Tracked items are being delivered as usual and we expect the data for them to be available again later today.

‘We will continue to provide updates on our website and thank our customers for their patience.

Parcel tracking tends to cost customers a little extra, while allowing them to see exactly where their item is.

A small parcel delivered first-class by Royal Mail can be delivered with prices starting at £4.09, according to the company’s website.

With Tracking 24, which also guarantees next-day delivery, the price starts at £4.25.

MSN clearly using word-salad generators to report the news.
