You can only do what you can do, this used to be a normal event and someone should remember the standard rate of sorting and prepping.

I don't know why they bother...
Based on my office Royal Mail are getting more work than they should be getting out of staff with the amount of people that start early or finish late and don't book overtime. It's probably common throughout the UK.
Add in all the shortcuts posties take like doorstepping....posties are for sure delivering way more parcels/letters than should actually be possible.
You can improve efficiency by having a happy workforce, retaining staff, not having to employ new people which requires training and them learning a lot of different walks. Every time that knowledge disappears and you have to start all over again.
