Dogs
Does anyone know if a frame is supposed to be marked up with something to identify potentially dangerous dogs? Or is there supposed to be a walk log highlighting issues? A frame I've started to work doesn't have dog markers and I haven't seen the walk log. I find this quite surprising as there are at least 8 dogs I see every day as being either out of control or a serious threat and I've already had a very close encounter with one today.
I would have thought others who have worked the duty would know the threats and marked the frame accordingly. Some other frames in the DO have dots to indicate such threats.

Re: Dogs
it is an absolute must that it it's in the walk log along with a yellow dot on the sorting frame and also you must "mark D" on any letter when prepping,
of course this isn't followed by the duty holder as they know, it is a nightmare for reserves and lapsing plans
RM will always try to shift the blame to a postie on any dog attacks, but actually they are correct if this happens, dog attacks are the worst experience for us, every safeguard should be made

Walk log: Yes
AFAIK the dog dangers on the walk log should be transferred to your PDA, (but if you're just delivering a letter, you don't look at your PDA to deliver a letter!). That way LTA/DPR drivers (and Parcelforce?) should also get sight of them.

Recorded in the walklog and marked on the frame label with a yellow dot sticker. There's nothing to stop you reporting the dogs and writing them in the walklog and putting the yellow dot sticker on the label.raXor wrote: ↑12 Feb 2025, 20:35Does anyone know if a frame is supposed to be marked up with something to identify potentially dangerous dogs? Re: Dogs
All the walk logs and space to put them were all binned, along with the shelving units, to make space at the last revision for the over-extended walk frames. From that deduce what the priority is....safety or savings?tramssirhc wrote: ↑13 Feb 2025, 06:52Recorded in the walklog and marked on the frame label with a yellow dot sticker. Re: Dogs
What's the CWU doing about that? The area safety rep is on full time release and it's part of their function to check the walklogs are there.Trumanity wrote: ↑13 Feb 2025, 16:50All the walk logs and space to put them were all binned, along with the shelving units, to make space at the last revision for the over-extended walk frames. In the meantime ask for the yellow dot stickers and write the dogs on special instruction cards and put them with the redirections. There's plenty you can do to make it safe for you and others.

Re: Dogs
Ultimately Royal Mail are responsible for your safety at work.
If you get bitten by an undocumented dog then RM may be held responsible and negligent.
It is a difficult problem.
If I was to document every dog on my walk then the list would be so long as to render it meaningless. A cover would never be able to absorb all the information. (Unless they were some sort of genius speed reader )
The simple solution would be for people to stop owning dogs.

Also the near miss with the dog needs recording in ERICA.Trumanity wrote: ↑13 Feb 2025, 16:50All the walk logs and space to put them were all binned, along with the shelving units, to make space at the last revision for the over-extended walk frames. Re: Dogs
Thanks for the info. Honestly if I was a manager and saw that any duty had no record of any potential dog threats, I'd be very concerned. Or is it just a case of managers not feeling the need to carry out assurance checks.... until someone gets bitten and all hell breaks loose.

They tend to be reactive and not proactive.

The CWU has issued a letter today about dogs which you'd be interested to read.raXor wrote: ↑12 Feb 2025, 20:35Does anyone know if a frame is supposed to be marked up with something to identify potentially dangerous dogs? Re: Dogs
I have two dogs on my walk that fight to snatch the mail soon as I post, I can hear the owner shouting & trying to get the mail back off the dogs, how I laughed to myself has I slowly posted a passport so the dogs could get a good grip
