Writing a card out can be a bit of a faff in the elements. They’ve bought it online, tracked it online but expect a card telling them they weren’t in to receive it (twice).

My view is be guided by what the customer would want/expect but let your own judgement as to item value etc overrule everything. For example, I insist on a house front door being unlocked and opened if someone pulls up on a driveway or on the road alongside if I deem it necessary so I can get a compliant photo POD. For an Asos package I would be quite relaxed about putting it over a fence if that was requested. Anything cardboard always goes to a neighbour,
even if the customer requests otherwise.
Why, if I wanted my order from Boots etc left behind my bins I'd be annoyed if I got home to find only a 739 card had been left instead of my parcel.

As far as signatures I can't understand why RM don't make it so expensive hardly anybody uses the service as surely a photo of the customers door etc is just as much proof the items has been delivered as an unreadable squiggle Likewise why can't RM introduce a Special Delivery/Guaranteed T24 delivery service which doesn't require a signature and can also be left with a neighbour etc
A photo of a parcel isn't proof of delivery though. It's only proof you were possibly near their house. You can take a photo and then put the parcel back in your van. Other delivery companies have had drivers caught doing just that so a signature if it's asked for is what the customer wants to
rove delivery.
If signatures are so virtual then why do 99% of customers using the Tracked service now choose the non signature option?

the rule of docketing a parcel on the first attempt is annoying.

Yeah ok...it confirms we have 100% been there to attempt the delivery....

Wouldn't it be better to have some other Royal Mail cards that say 'we attempted today and we'll try again tomorrow' that we simply post through....instead of us having to spend time writing details out on a card.

Not vital I suppose, but a lot of the Boots stuff comes through as requiring sig (assuming it contains higher priced stuff like perfume rather than toothpaste!) and Currys electrical stuff comes through signature as well.

Down to cost of claim for alleged loss v cost of (almost) certain proof of delivery I suppose.
