parcels how u deliver them

Just wondering how some posties go about delivering their parcels, with volumes of parcels through the roof , and now a lot of us hate having to take parcels back as we have to take them out the next day adding to the next days list of parcels, me personally like getting rid of them first time now if i can, dont really like bringing much back. So I usually find a safe place for parcels, but the signature make u think twice, Do you sign parcels and leave them in double doors porch doors as customer will likely get them? or do u take them back, everything is so fast paced going you would expect some leeway with the volume of parcels coming through the door now

Never sign for anything myself but do leave parcels where I consider it safe , in porch or behind bins etc. if not on busy roads or in public view and always leave a 739 card telling them where i left it.

Madness to sign for anything. If a parcel goes missing that you have signed for then be prepared to have a difficult fight to keep your job (unless your face fits).

You do the job the way the SOP tells you. Why would you do anything else?

Fictitious signatures = fraudulent and dishonest. Just leave a properly-filled 739 with tracking number on the back and try again tomorrow. A signed-for item usually entails something deemed by the sender to be of financial or intrinsic value and so it deserves to be handed to the right recipient and a signature POD obtained. I lose 99% of non signed with neighbours and safe places but not with signed-for items.

Don’t sign for stuff and safe place it. If the customer is in but just wants you to leave it while they get dressed I’d DWS it to save a bit of time. Parcels are through the roof and if you have to take some back don’t worry about it just do those the next day and fail some different ones. Rinse and repeat.

I've had the safe place conversation many times. I don't think safe places are a real thing. Anyway, an old manager told us to get rid of what we can, where we can. He even said recycling bins are ok. In my view a recycling bin is as safe as a porch. They're both unlocked but one of them is see through.

My view is be guided by what the customer would want/expect but let your own judgement as to item value etc overrule everything. For example, I insist on a house front door being unlocked and opened if someone pulls up on a driveway or on the road alongside if I deem it necessary so I can get a compliant photo POD. For an Asos package I would be quite relaxed about putting it over a fence if that was requested. Anything cardboard always goes to a neighbour, even if the customer requests otherwise.

We have on average 130 packets a day (give or take 10+/-) we usually bring around 20-30 back leaving a properly filled out 739 card. The next day we leave 2-4 loops to compensate for the added workload. Nothing is stolen or damaged and customers are usually in on day 2. No time built in for neighbours and safe places are usually not safe.

Madness to bring 20-30 back each day but leave up to 4 loops, unless your round is all terraced houses or dodgy flats then their must be safe places for the majority of the those parcels? It's pretty clear the business wants us to deliver as many parcels 1st time as possible.

Why, if I wanted my order from Boots etc left behind my bins I'd be annoyed if I got home to find only a 739 card had been left instead of my parcel.

As far as signatures I can't understand why RM don't make it so expensive hardly anybody uses the service as surely a photo of the customers door etc is just as much proof the items has been delivered as an unreadable squiggle Likewise why can't RM introduce a Special Delivery/Guaranteed T24 delivery service which doesn't require a signature and can also be left with a neighbour etc

Hopefully we do 1 attempt, bring it back, then someone else takes all the parcels to parcel lockers scattered around the town or city for customers to collect from.

Or just axe YOUR job and take them straight to the locker from the DO
