RMCtv : Welcoming Performance Boards and 5S

Post by POSTMAN »

Wareham Delivery Office is the first office to go live with the Operating System, Performance Boards and the 5S process which creates the right environment for improvements.

Operating System Performance Boards will be deployed to 400 units by March. We caught up with Regional Delivery Manager, Gary Woods and the local team to find how performance is being improved in Wareham.

Hello everyone, I'm here today in Wareham delivery office, which is the first office to go live with both the operating system performance boards and something called 5S. I'm here today with Saeed and Steve to explain. The operations team uses the wider view performance measures, which includes the safety, quality, cost, delivery, people and environment categories.

These measures will start to be displayed in 400 units on the new performance boards that we are rolling out this financial year. The boards display the units local performance so that everyone can see it and it's a reference point for team talk, take fives or one to one conversations to discuss what changes can be adopted to improve performance. The operating system is all about improving unit performance in delivery.

Colleagues will be familiar with the my performance app, which supports the operating system by measuring and recognizing individual performance. My performance will be rolled out across other parts of the operation in the coming months.

Sam is an OPG in Wareham delivery office.

She's going to share with us where my performance is shown the performance boards or the benefits that she sees from it.

Sam OPG
This is the units my performance team celebration wall, which we use to recognize and celebrate good performance in our office.

5S stands for sort, set in order, shine, standardize and sustain.
It's a method that helps us to significantly improve a workplace so that it's clean, uncluttered, safe and very well organized so that we can reduce waste and enhance productivity. It's designed to help us build a very tidy and well organized environment for everyone to work in. 5S sounds complicated, but in reality it isn't.

It's here to help us get the best out of our equipment and offices so that the teams can then focus on unit performance and delivering quality for our customers. It supports the operating system by creating the right environment for improvements. The operating system performance boards will be rolled out to over 400 delivery offices by March this year, with a plan to deploy this into the rest of the delivery estate by the end of March 2026.

Thanks for joining us today at Wareham delivery office.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I thought it was referencing RMs five levels of service.
s**t, shite, shitter, shittier and shittiest.

We don't need boards to improve the performance. We need more staff, better equipment and management that can manage workloads without being absolute twats to the staff.

Toytota started this in the 1970's.

RM - only about 40 years behind the times.....

Every office is going to need another manager to keep the boards up to date....

5S was a minor part of TPM, and that was about 33 years ago. Didn't work then either..

They should run a monthly competition on which posties care less about, the performance board or the my performance app. They could then collate all that data over the year and display the results on the wall of one of the super hubs. Dave Ward could be invited to switch the display on like a Z list celebrity does for our towns Xmas lights.

I've mentioned "The Wall" previously which sounds exactly like this. It was pre-pandemic, so long enough ago that everyone has forgotten how useless it was the first time.

5S…….WTF!!!! Jesus Christ those ridiculous words that the 5S are supposed to represent have absolutely Jack with delivering mail. Then they have the nerve to say about it improving the service to our customers. Every F*****g they do flies in the face of that.
