Re: CWU Live at 5pm - USO Discussion with Tony Bouch
They could simplify this right down and hold 2c mail on Saturdays reducing the need for Saturday staff and shaving headcount. Under the new scheme if someone goes sick and the walk stays in next time it’s cleared it could be 4 days worth of mail

According to the updates this week, units will be overstaffed to count for sick, so if your unit constantly has 7% sick they will resource 7% above…

There is no logic to anything you are saying.
It is perfectly possible that Mon - Fri they are the non driver in a van share duty.
As Saturday will be 1st class mail and parcels only delivered by a single person in a van there will be no work for a non driver.
On a separate point we have HCT duties that do not fit into 1 HCT. So they have overload bags brought out to them.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

There won't be any second class mail on a Saturday, only first class.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 06:40They could simplify this right down and hold 2c mail on Saturdays reducing the need for Saturday staff and shaving headcount. We still use them for hct duties, also the duties closest to the office have to come back to refill, I've read comments on here that someone will say they can only just fit their full duty in the trolley, surely they must be doing hardly any parcels which must be a real inefficient way of working if someone else, dpr maybe is doing most of the parcels.

They've not yet confirmed if we'll still sort the 1C and 2C together at the inward MC, with the 2C being extracted at the DO, or if we'll process the 2C on a different day. If we're just running 1C only at night, frankly some nights we might as well send it manual as it won't be worth running the machines

And that’s a good thing. It’s during the week that will get messy when duties are basically all on double mail. How much will they shrink the duties?claretandblue wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 08:46There won't be any second class mail on a Saturday, only first class.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 06:40They could simplify this right down and hold 2c mail on Saturdays reducing the need for Saturday staff and shaving headcount. If it all comes to the Do. It will be sorted and delivered on the day it arrives, no point walking up the path with a 1c or tracked and leaving a 2c behind

Bouch mentioned some royal mail algorithm where if a DP has a first class letter, then the rest of the mail would be released by the machine.

That's been the case for a while, @spacephoenix can explain it fully.claretandblue wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 13:36Bouch mentioned some royal mail algorithm where if a DP has a first class letter, then the rest of the mail would be released by the machine.

You could be referencing me, I dunno, but I sometimes have this problem and there is no one to drive bags out to me and no places to leave bags, for me to go back office and load up with 2nd half and commence duty again, I lose an absolute minimum of 25 mins, usually about 30-35 mins, especially if a train come along, once I lost 40 mins repleneshing, bloody joke.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 08:52We still use them for hct duties, also the duties closest to the office have to come back to refill, I've read comments on here that someone will say they can only just fit their full duty in the trolley, surely they must be doing hardly any parcels which must be a real inefficient way of working if someone else, dpr maybe is doing most of the parcels.

He was talking specifically about the non delivery day.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 14:14That's been the case for a while, @spacephoenix can explain it fully.claretandblue wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 13:36Bouch mentioned some royal mail algorithm where if a DP has a first class letter, then the rest of the mail would be released by the machine.

Ah maybe so, sorry no disrespect or anything intended if I sounded that way didn't mean to, yes as you say bit of a joke, in the old days bag drops were arranged in people's sheds and shops etc but surely we won't go back to that, maybe they might have to try a bit harder to arrange for someone to bring bags out as obviously you can't fit everything in.Dingo99 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 15:46You could be referencing me, I dunno, but I sometimes have this problem and there is no one to drive bags out to me and no places to leave bags, for me to go back office and load up with 2nd half and commence duty again, I lose an absolute minimum of 25 mins, usually about 30-35 mins, especially if a train come along, once I lost 40 mins repleneshing, bloody joke.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 08:52We still use them for hct duties, also the duties closest to the office have to come back to refill, I've read comments on here that someone will say they can only just fit their full duty in the trolley, surely they must be doing hardly any parcels which must be a real inefficient way of working if someone else, dpr maybe is doing most of the parcels.
