I’m still none the wiser , my office works a 9 day fortnight so 1 Saturday off in 4 . Will this change bring more Saturdays off or is this as good as it gets ?

Lots of questions and I'd hope that someone has the answers but I'm not sure they dochickenwittle wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025, 20:56I’m still none the wiser , my office works a 9 day fortnight so 1 Saturday off in 4 . Will this change bring more Saturdays off or is this as good as it gets ?
CWU seem to be pushing the 9 day fortnight so does this mean every office will work that pattern?

It looks like the best you can get will be either a 1 in 4 or 1 in 3 Saturdays off, unless you don't drive then it will be every Saturday off.

There is no way round it. You can't magic up work for people on a Saturday. Besides, they will be needed Mon-Fri on core duties with 2-3 days worth of mail in them.chickenwittle wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025, 21:29That’s another issue they can’t explain, no way non drivers should get every Saturday off but how do you get around it ?

I don't think non drivers should or will get every Saturday off, I guess they will be a passenger in the van. It's just so complicated and going to be a nightmare to sort out

There might be more walking duties than driving duties so some drivers who get them will be off Saturdays as well

You might be right, but I'm not sure. That extra person pairing up and being a van passenger on a Saturday doing packets and 1st class only vs them doing a core delivery on another day during the week is a no brainer for RM. They aren't going to be putting 2 in a van on a Saturday when 1 will do at the expense of a full days core delivery Mon-Fri.

By core delivery I take it you mean a complete walk? Thats fine if it's a days worth of work but being a non driver they will be using a HCT so they're not going to get 2 days work in it let alone 3

They might not be using a HCT though. And if they are using one, I'd imagine it would be filled to capacity. The point still remains though, far more useful for RM to have someone deliver several days worth of mail than it is to have 2 people driving around in a van on a Saturday. The fact that it might get some people more weekends off than others doesn't really come into it for the company. Forcing people into work on a Saturday isn't going to work.A2B wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025, 21:52By core delivery I take it you mean a complete walk? If they don't drive and they aren't in a shared van then they must be using a HCT If they are sharing a van during the week then it's no different to sharing a van on a Saturday.Perseus wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025, 21:57They might not be using a HCT though. Make no mistake Saturdays aren't going to be a day to casually drive round in a van delivering packets and a little bit of mail, there will be plenty of work for everyone

Re: CWU Live at 5pm - USO Discussion with Tony Bouch
Why would Saturdays be any different to any other day when 1 person is doing the 1C letters and packets for 2 duties? It will literally be happening every other day of the week.
