I get the impression Barnacles office has been chosen deliberately as it WONT work - something that was referred to on the CWU video a few weeks ago.
Would not surprise me one bit. There is literally nothing going on to prepare for it. No gathering the staff together so the DOM can give us a pep talk about it, nothing. The only info has been what the union produced when the pilot offices were decided, and then comments from reps.

Management have said nothing.

So there is the issue: ‘No reason rural can’t take 2c every other day’. But the van will be driving round a rural route, which will cover a large area, every day. There is zero cost saving to be had in alternating 2c days.
Dunno about that. The rurals I cover you can save a considerable amount of time if you don't have to go to particular calls. A lot of them are up big long roads/dirt tracks with nothing else there - if they've got nothing you don't need to come off the main road to go up and down that track and can instead just carry on. It really adds up when you miss a few.

Saturdays for instance - just taking Tracked and 1C can just about give enough time to squeeze in a collection if it falls right and avoids certain calls. I'd more likely be hitting a few more of the awkward calls taking 2C and the various downstream access junk.

Some of us had signed for scheduled attendance collection runs back in the day, learned a shitload of the routes back then. Apparently not required these days by RM standards :hmmmm

That's what I thought, no reason rurals should be kept as they currently are still getting a full daily delivery when this kicks in, this whole thing is extremely badly thought through.

You can almost guarantee that if you were to take on a collection to make up for lack of mail you would have tracked/specials for the furthest delivery points taking away any spare time you thought you might have

I think the idea was that your regular type of rurals where you cover a relatively small area, farms, hamlets at the edge of towns etc would be part of the USO reform. Deep rural runs, I'm talking about the ones that cover 60 miles a day, would have little to no point in doing the reform.

I can't see how different duties (rurals and HCT) will have separate delivery specifications.

If as has been mentioned on here 2nd class mail will be held back on a Saturday what do these duties do to fill out their duty?

If you tuned in to Tony Bouch talking about this earlier on CWU Live, you would have heard him say that RM literally have not thought about HCTs and Saturdays, they haven’t thought about rurals, bank hols etc, etc…. They haven’t thought about any of it.

Anybody working on a Saturday will be expected to cover two duties unless it's a particular large rural duty but they are probably a small % compared to all the other rounds. OFCOM etc are making clear 2c will only be delivered on alternative days so it would be a bit odd for RM to then deliver 2c to farms etc but not large businesses in city centres.

I think it's more likely that RM haven't told the CWU what their full plans are yet. Let the CWU keep promoting the changes in a good light and when it comes to the crunch hit us with the hard facts

I agree, there would be something not right about some areas getting a 6 day USO and others getting a 2-3 day, officially anyways.

Just so it's clear in my head.

We have to drive slower because of Trimble.
They want one postie to cover 2 jobs ( 1 with 2 days mail) in the time it takes to normally do one job, but also drive slower?

That about right?
I thought it was;

3 posties cover 4 walks

2 of them will do all products on walk A and B whilst postie 3 does the tracked and 1st class from walk C and D

then the next day 2 of them will do all products on walk C and D whilst postie 3 does the tracked and 1st class from walk A and B
I don’t know where you are getting the extra postie from? On a paired walk, two posties will continue to work their two walks. That is how the pilot has to run.
Youve misread it

3 posties will be in charge of 4 walks - A, B, C and D

On pairings, 2 will work together in a van to do all products on duties A and B whilst the third postie in another van does only the tracked and 1st class mail on C and D

then they swap over each day Monday to Friday - pairing will do C and D all products whilst third postie does the trackes and 1str class on A and B
They will have to make the walks smaller.
Just doing tracked alone on a CDV now can easily lead to cutting off now.
Add some mail into the equation and you have two hopes.

I think the more puzzling thing about rurals is that they’ll be getting ( I assume ) a six day service when they’re the least profitable and town deliveries which are more profitable will get less🤷‍♂️

That’s Royal Mail for you.

So would one postie be able to work permanently on their own at all times basically flipping between the 4 duties just doing tracked,1c etc? I mean they could have a relatively easier day than the pairing posties or a relatively harder day than the pairing?
