That would be a great result in terms of keeping jobs, although might end up slightly unfair on other rounds who will be expected to make the savings by condensing 6 days worth of anything that isn't 1st class into 2 days one week then 3 days the next.
Rural rounds are also an issue for the pilot system because there is no saving to be had.
We've got HCT routes, but none that can't be done with a van, which is sometimes the case if we have enough. What happens currently to large parcels currently for the HCT routes?
Two large vans go round with their oversize, as part of two walks.
What's a large van supposed to be?
I don’t know what make you have but we have LWB Peugeots and Vauxhalls in addition to medium and small vans.
3 seaters? We have a couple and they ain't much bigger than the Peugeot/Vauxhall shitboxes that make up the rest of the fleet. Just outside the emissions zone btw
LWB. They’re a bigger van.
I know
I have no idea why you are nitpicking over van sizes.
I have no idea why you are suggesting 2 LWBs are going to cover 25000 delivery points
Where did I state that?

I'm not here to be having an argument

I didn’t say those two vans were delivering to 25000 delivery points.

I’m not sure why anyone is resistant to the idea of HCT users keeping their jobs? If you are seeking ways to get rid of HCT routes and make them van walks, that’s jobs you are taking away.
I don't think people are after cutting HCT routes it's just it doesn't fit into anything that RM want to bring in
We are being told all our duties, including HCT's which I often cover are being subjected to method change which is why I'm trying to understand it.
I can't see how HCT routes won't be subject to the same changes the rest of the office faces, how that is implemented is anybodys guess for now
Like I said, it would be a great result to keep all those routes as they are, but it just means they will come looking for savings in other areas in the office. This is probably where the vague 'method change' will come in.

You don’t have van sharing now?
Thought van sharing was in every office for the last 10 years
No abandoned years ago
Are all your vans singleton duties now? How do the other half of the pairs do their walk without a van?
Yes all vans are singleton
The dream scenario.

He did say this morning the hcts in our office would be seeing changes. If there was a lack of work for them the guy who does it was told he could make up door 2 doors for the office or help around the office.

The question was asked will it continue to be a 35 hour or 37 hour full time week depending on your contract but they were very vague about that.
Also if 3 posties are doing the work of 4 surely thats means a surplus of vans ( at least in our office
Many of the town duties are single vans) .
To roll out a trial and yet have few answers to the most simple of questions is typical of this business but still shocking

We have DPR drivers at our office, so of course that adds another level of difficulty in finding work for everyone during the trial.

There is no difficulty at all in “finding work” for those who cover DPRs. A lot of those staff who regularly do DPRs are now multiskilled and can cover walks, afternoon collections, mail centre runs, CSP, RLE, K&T, etc, etc. They are used to being pulled from pillar to post on a daily basis.

The problem in “finding work” will invariably be among the legacy staff, some of whom at our place have very publicly stated they will not be moved from their existing duties nor will they switch between routes as required by the method change.

You misunderstood and can’t see the wood for the trees. The DPR are going to be dropped because that section won’t be required.

The senior staff that you are constantly maligning, have been there done that, they’ve seen numerous changes come and go. Think about that.

I just assumed Barnacle when you said that they were HCT routes for a reason it meant that there was no other way that the routes could be delivered due to topography etc. People aren't talking about staff losing their jobs, just what the CWU are saying about 'method change' which probably entails rotating them or becoming a shared van partner or something a few days a week.

Yes, that’s what I meant when I was talking about HCT routes. Ours are there because using a van to walk it doesn’t work because of access, lengthy dead walks etc.

Just on the hct duties part and I’ve said this in another thread is that lots of them are city centre deliveries and would be near on impossible to do with a park and loop method due to having nowhere to park and often one way streets.

Just like rural duties , there would be zero savings in going over that ground with just 1st class.

There will be some hct duties that’ll go back to p&l.

no problem. what about days off then with Saturdays seemingly being parcels only, or is it still mail on a Saturday too.

I can only speak for ours, but currently the HCTs would be going out on a Saturday as now. There is nothing to be gained by alternating the delivery days with a HCT and it is the greenest delivery method. It’s an area that I don’t think was given any thought when they came up with this pilot method.
