Change is coming, when and how? Who knows. Will it be asap? I would imagine so. What will it entail? Who knows.
Hard to fill any of the blanks with anything definitive as to what, when and how. But as we all know it will be a nightmare for us at the coalface.
It's kinda like that thread discussing shift patterns in DOs, it's a waste of time until we know exactly what changes are coming. The changes are going to be quite comprehensive at all DOs and MCs as for both DOs and MCs it'll mean massive changes to their work plans and dispatch times. If a lorry ends up being hardly filled as a result of whatever changes are made then that run will get axed, even if it means the inward MC or the DO getting more of their work later
Oh you started off really well then, unfortunately the last couple of lines spoilt it :hmmmm

Sp is desperate for delivery offices to work midday into the night, not sure why he's desperate for the posties of inner city Manchester, Liverpool and London to be working alone at night but he has form for it.

Everything seems primed for huge changes in the next 2-3 months with the takeover. There is no way talks haven't gone on behind the scenes - and the CWU are only giving us the apparent good bits.
The letters side of the business is being made to look unworkable anymore and I'd expect some sort of emergency legislation to be brought in to hasten the reform.

All part of the plan over the last 12 months - get rid of staff, the few that get replaced are on inferior terms, use up all your annual leave you have, weaken the CWU, make letters side of business collapse, stop paying overtime. There will be more, but that's just off the top of my head.

Until recently i myself thought early 2026 was most likely.
However, recently it seems that there are basically no obstacles to its implementation.
Everyone that RM need on board is on board.
They will want to do it ASAP, but do have to go through a trial and implementation process.
Also, i do believe that once everything is sorted a 10 week notice period has to be legally observed.
Therefore it would seem to me that early autumn is about as early as it could be.
Hit the nail on the head there Michael,

IMHO

They'll start the 'official' trials but after 2/3 weeks of those trials commencing, as long as it's not a complete cluster f**k regional managers will get a nod and a wink to start their own 'trials'. It'll be 'trialling' in a lot of places by the end of summer.

Our last revision was a 'trial' that still doesn't work, but it's what we do every day!

The decision from Ofcom is due this summer, July was mentioned by Martin Walsh I think. Martin also said Royal Mail want to do the changes via a method change which can be done “overnight” without revisions. But Martin and Ward have also said could take 18 months to fully roll out.
In a nutshell it’ll probably be rolled out pretty chaotically between September 2025 and December 2026.
It won't be rolled out. It will be chaotically implemented. The s**t has long hit the fan. When was the last time you truly enjoyed going to work? Grimy, broken toilets, festering and embarrassing vans. A complete s**t show of a working environment. Mail left every day. Parcels ALWAYS prioritised. The USO reform has already de facto happened. They will f**k everything up and then all of the property will be sold. In less than 5 years time there will not be an USO! Jobs will be destroyed :wave

Some of our rounds are trialling it starting next week (only the ones where the duty holders have agreed to give it a go, I don’t blame them they each get every other Saturday off)

We still haven’t recovered from our last “trial” our place is funked up and we’ve got a repick going on at the same time

So can someone tell me is it actually legal for them/us to do this? Has it been approved? Is this another dodgy as funk manoeuvre where our management don’t give a monkeys about the actual law regarding the USO?

Has it got something to do with our rounds failing every day anyway so it won’t actually make a difference?

I just figured it must be legal or our union would be intervening wouldn’t they?

Sure I've read on here that as long as first class is delivered every day the USO is being upheld but if that is indeed the case is unclear

It's not rocket science, any 2-year-old could work out that if it arrives at the MC later, it gets processed later and goes out to the DOs later. No one in either a MC or DO yet knows what changes will be made to their work plan or what changes will be made to dispatch times

From what you say I assume you're office isn't on the official list of offices trialing the proposed changes?

Although I doubt it can as their trials don't start until next month, you really couldn't make it up!

We have been trialling it since Covid, do one frame one day and the shared duty the next.

As the title says, what is a realistic timetable for implementation of USO change?
I have been with RM decades and this will be far the biggest change i have experienced.
I think its basically nailed on that something very like, if not exactly RM`s proposals are going through.
The trials are of course not trials in the sense that there is no chance that whatever happens RM are going to come back and say `well, that did not work very well, major rethink needed `.
In fact the only instance i can remember of that happening was the infamous `starburst` system that i am sure some of us remember.
i think its clear that more Saturdays off are in the offering and people in the office are already eyeing up the opportunities this would create (especially sporting wise).
I think we can be sure that this is happening this year and that Christmas 2025 will be the first festive period under a new system, however i do not really think that a start date before Autumn is on the cards, any thoughts?
