Realistic Timetable for USO change
As the title says, what is a realistic timetable for implementation of USO change?
I have been with RM decades and this will be far the biggest change i have experienced.
I think its basically nailed on that something very like, if not exactly RM`s proposals are going through.
The trials are of course not trials in the sense that there is no chance that whatever happens RM are going to come back and say `well, that did not work very well, major rethink needed `.
In fact the only instance i can remember of that happening was the infamous `starburst` system that i am sure some of us remember.
i think its clear that more Saturdays off are in the offering and people in the office are already eyeing up the opportunities this would create (especially sporting wise).
I think we can be sure that this is happening this year and that Christmas 2025 will be the first festive period under a new system, however i do not really think that a start date before Autumn is on the cards, any thoughts?

Change is coming, when and how? Who knows. Will it be asap? I would imagine so. What will it entail? Who knows.
Hard to fill any of the blanks with anything definitive as to what, when and how. But as we all know it will be a nightmare for us at the coalface.
These halfwits have struggled to get anything right since i started and ,unless Dan the man brings something new, it will probably continue.
But sure they will just blame the lazy, overpaid posties for everything.

Re: Realistic Timetable for USO change
Until recently i myself thought early 2026 was most likely.
However, recently it seems that there are basically no obstacles to its implementation.
Everyone that RM need on board is on board.
They will want to do it ASAP, but do have to go through a trial and implementation process.
Also, i do believe that once everything is sorted a 10 week notice period has to be legally observed.
Therefore it would seem to me that early autumn is about as early as it could be.

It's kinda like that thread discussing shift patterns in DOs, it's a waste of time until we know exactly what changes are coming. The changes are going to be quite comprehensive at all DOs and MCs as for both DOs and MCs it'll mean massive changes to their work plans and dispatch times. If a lorry ends up being hardly filled as a result of whatever changes are made then that run will get axed, even if it means the inward MC or the DO getting more of their work laterscotchy1962 wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 08:01Change is coming, when and how? Re: Realistic Timetable for USO change
The decision from Ofcom is due this summer, July was mentioned by Martin Walsh I think. Martin also said Royal Mail want to do the changes via a method change which can be done “overnight” without revisions. But Martin and Ward have also said could take 18 months to fully roll out.
In a nutshell it’ll probably be rolled out pretty chaotically between September 2025 and December 2026.

Re: Realistic Timetable for USO change
Are you really stupid enough to think that RM are going to send a lorry near empty when they can hold the stuff and send it out on a later run or to not hold a lorry until it can be filled? If all that is available for the early runs is 1C then them runs will be axed as there won't be enough mail to make them runs viableted_e_bear wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 09:36Oh you started off really well then, unfortunately the last couple of lines spoilt itSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 08:48It's kinda like that thread discussing shift patterns in DOs, it's a waste of time until we know exactly what changes are coming. Hopefully when they do make the changes that do them for both the MCs and the DOs in the area of them MCs at the same timetoonshola wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 10:03The decision from Ofcom is due this summer, July was mentioned by Martin Walsh I think. Re: Realistic Timetable for USO change
The trial and USO change are going to take a while but I think there will be other changes before then.
Our DO is now basically fully staffed and the last week has seen very little work coming in, 2nd wave is next to nothing at the moment.Nobody can argue about the overtime ban here because the work just isn't there. If the workload doesn't pick up I expect they will come looking for another walk to remove and any other way they can save hours.
I know not every office is the same but speaking to others in nearby offices they are in the same situation, everyone is being asked/told to use up any remaining 24/25 leave because there's not enough work to go round.
Good news for anyone who genuinely wants VR I expect

Locally the workload has dropped off a lot. I'm surprised that they've not offered weeks of unpaid leave to save hours from the budgetA2B wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 10:22The trial and USO change are going to take a while but I think there will be other changes before then.

Re: Realistic Timetable for USO change
Some of the prep work is about to start in MCs with outward MCs sorting 1C flats and manual letters being sorted and going into separate boxes from 2C flats and manual letters. For now them boxes will be going together on the same yorks, but I've no idea if they'll eventually have a separate 1C dispatch, once all the 1C has been sorted before any 2C gets sorted. Don't know if the same applies to the mech, we're still running 1C and 2C together through the CSS
