No.
We turned up at work. (I think the red warning had been upgraded from amber overnight.)
They had a conference call and sent us home.
None of the options you mentioned were ever discussed.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The problem with that is it might mean travelling when the storm is at its most violent.
That would seem to be a bit silly just to prove a point.

If the business wants their employee to take a day's holiday when there's disruption then they must give them at least 2 days notice. If not, then it should be classed as additional unpaid (special) leave.
As an employee it is your responsibility to get to work even in extreme weather conditions. If the office is closed then it will be unpaid leave. But if the office is open and you turn up and the manager says that you can't work safely on your normal duty then you should be asked to cover other work to make up the time. If there is no other work available then employees may be allowed to go home early and there will be no requirement to make up the time.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Surely they can't MAKE you stay after your time ... False imprisonment?Duesouth wrote: ↑23 Jan 2025, 17:35Finish time is 3pm but got told this afternoon, we have to stay in the office till 5pm.thefox wrote: ↑23 Jan 2025, 17:20Apparently some offices are getting told if they go in they have to stay till after 5pm at least.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑23 Jan 2025, 17:07The problem with that is it might mean travelling when the storm is at its most violent.

This looks like a policy change from just a few months from the last RED weather warning.
At a time when people have been put under financial pressure due to the overtime cull. Hmmmm.

Turn up for work. If they send you home, then I don't think they can penalise you. Gives you an idea of higher up management and the stupid decisions they make.

Surely if you are unable to sign out until the lifting of the red weather warning at 5PM then the company owes you the time elapsed after sign out? I'll take that as OT, thanks! Obviously the intention there is to push people into one of their money-saving options.
The machine stops.

Royal mail’s own policy on adverse weather says if your office is closed you will not be required to make up the time no mention of unpaid leave.postslippete wrote: ↑23 Jan 2025, 17:17If the business wants their employee to take a day's holiday when there's disruption then they must give them at least 2 days notice.
