Storm Éowyn Amber & Red Weather Warning: Friday, 24 January

The MET office has upgraded the status of Storm Éowyn from Amber to Red for the following areas on Friday, 24 January:

Northern Ireland: forecast between 07:00-14:00
Central, Eastern and Western Scotland: forecast between 10:00-17:00

Wednesday 22 January
The MET office has issued an Amber Weather Warning for strong winds on Friday, 24 January.

Storm Éowyn will move across the Northwest UK on Friday, clearing to the Northeast on Friday night. This will bring a spell of very strong west to Southwesterly winds, with peak gusts of 60-70 mph fairly widely inland, 70-80 mph in some areas, and 80-90 mph along more exposed coasts and hills (perhaps even higher in a few locations).

It should be noted that there may be a slight reduction in wind strength for a time as the centre of Storm Éowyn passes overhead, this most likely in parts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland, before winds rapidly increase again. Winds will gradually ease later on Friday.

As a result, there may be some disruption to mail delivery, collection, and distribution. To ensure our people's and customers' safety, severe weather risk assessments will be conducted based on local knowledge. Although we will strive to maintain our services in areas where it is safe to do so, the safety of our people is our top priority.

They tried it on with us. Same as above, plus a third option to take unpaid leave. I took the secret fourth option: turn up to work.

The weather warning, as it stands, is not in effect until 10AM. If, then, they wish to release us from our hours as they did with the Beast from the East, fine. Otherwise I'll happily sit in the office and roleplay as a manager.
