A 5 day or a 4 day week??

When theres lots of staff off sick and we only have 1 person for a van share. We do packets and parcels for that van share.
I'd just prefer it was like that.
Van share packets and parcels+1c letters.
Next day double mail.
Rotating back and forward.
Easier on the body as ur jumping from walking to driving the next day.
3 day cover for the van share. (1day driver 2 days walker following week the reverse)
1 week you have 1 day off then following week 2 days off. (Mon-Sat)
van partner has the opposite.
so u work 9 days over 2 weeks.
The time from the 10th day gets spread out over the other days where u have double mail + double d2ds.
Parcel days u get extra time to fit in the first class mail with the packets and parcels.

You won't get days with just 1C letters from the MC, it's not viable these days with there being so little 1C. We'd probably still process the 1C and 2C together as normal and it'll be down to the DOs to extract any 2C that they aren't delivering. Over the last 3-4 years letters have dropped off massively, especially 1C

Won't work. Inward mail is 1C and 2C mixed together. We won't be double handling it. It'll get sorted to the DOs and then sent out to them. Wave 1 mech is 1C and 2C mixed together, there's not enough 1C alone to be worth starting the machines. Outward mail, again there's probably not enough 1C to justify sending it out to the inward MCs

Wouldn’t mind a 9 day fought-night doing mail and parcels. Slightly longer days but more days off and the managers will probably be on a 5 or 6 day week so they’ll be long gone by the time we finish.

They don't have to add another frame.
They will simply identify one frame as first class. As we do with NHS letters currently.

There will be just another frame on the IPS for 1st class letters only. Then the postie will take those letters back to their workstation and just put them in order with the parcels that are going out.

We stopped segging NHS letters months ago, don't know when or why, just one day I was on the IPS and wasn't given any to prioritise.

Each DO had a Service Level Agreement which detailed the contract between the two. Nowadays it seems the attitude from MC’s is “I’m alright Jack” and nothing else matters.

Each shift has a work plan that they work to. These days inward and outward are often being sorted at the same time and we have a lot less staff than we used to have
