ROYAL MAIL has addressed current delays in the postal service as residents in one area of Warrington report not having seen a postman in weeks.

The international distribution service has been slammed by locals this week for delays during the December and January period, with some joking, 'what is a postman'.

In a post on social media yesterday, Wednesday, that has attracted much attention, a resident from Orford posed the question: "Has anyone seen the postman about Poplars Avenue area, feel like I’ve not seen him in ages."

Many commenters responded to acknowledge a similar absence of postmen and deliveries of post, with one resident stating they received 12 letters yesterday that were 'all dated December and beginning of Jan'.

While another added: "Post yesterday for the first time in two weeks."

Highlighting the knock-on effects delays in the delivery of post has on individuals, one commenter said: "We're getting one delivery a week. It's bad, I missed a hospital appointment through a late delivery."

Others around the Orford area also reported having not had post since Christmas or receiving a large bundle of letters this week after having had nothing over a two week period.

One resident even reported having had a recent delivery of 'ten letters and a Christmas card'.

Meanwhile other areas of Warrington have also reported delays in the service, ranging from Great Sankey to Appleton.

And while speculation has risen about staff shortages at the company, Royal Mail has confirmed that the actual reason for the delay in post in Warrington is due to 'recent severe weather conditions' - referring to the heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures that have struck the region in recent weeks.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: "The recent severe weather conditions affected certain deliveries in Warrington, but we have a plan in place to resolve this and the local delivery office will be cleared of all post shortly.”

Race to the bottom, management are obviously chasing that 5K bonus by decimating the DOs in these areas
