Re: Overtime ban
There's a recruitment and retention crisis plus the CWU is skint. It's what it deserves for the way it's treated us. However it's now up to workers to act collectively. You don't need to be in a union to think and act collectively. It's important you do.worktotime wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025, 15:16its looking like most of the office will be cancelling substramssirhc wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025, 06:43Provide the CWU with the service they provide you - leave. From CWU 2023 Accounts published in the Union Room thread, selected quotes to show what state CWU is in financially and membership wise:tramssirhc wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025, 15:43

2023 saw a decrease in subscription income of £1,308,436. In 2022 it was down by £201,516 and given in 2021 it was down by
£977,026. We are looking at position where income in 2023 was £2,486,978 less than it was just over 3 years ago. It does not really
need spelling out the income reductions of this magnitude cannot continue in a membership-based organisation that relies on
income in order to be able to operate efficiently.
The reason for this drop in income was that in 2023 membership dropped from 186,305 to 170,324
At the end of 2019 the CWU had 196,173 members. At the time of writing this report the CWU has 166,805. This is a loss over that
period of 29,368 members. To put that into perspective, in a year at the current average rate a member pays in subscriptions, that
loss equates to just under £4.5 million of income.
What this means in real terms is that for 2024 and beyond we will be running the organisation with in circa of £4.34 million less
income than we were just 5 years ago. Left unaddressed this will continue to see losses within the CWU accounts. The current loss,
as shown in these 2023 accounts, is a total comprehensive deficit of £3,749,632. This is an ongoing cycle of reduction that we have
to face up to.

Do we know why this overtime ban is in place immediately after raking in a fortune over Xmas? Are the books that bad or are they just being hyper awkward twats?

Re: Overtime ban
Don't forget that pensions liability it's got. It's finished as a stand alone organisation and is touting around the movement begging other unions to take it in. The movement knows it's a poison chalice and is giving it a wide berth. Quite rightly so.yellowbelly wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025, 16:36From CWU 2023 Accounts published in the Union Room thread, selected quotes to show what state CWU is in financially and membership wise:tramssirhc wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025, 15:43

IDS has always had a very healthy balance sheet with billions in assets and retained earnings. The books are cooked to justify running down the universal service which the business desperately wants rid of. RM is a privatised business that looks after its shareholders 1st, its senior managers 2nd, the rest of its managers 3rd and its customers and its best and most trusted posties last.
Kretinsky and EP Group are expected to complete the deal in the coming months and managers have been told to reign in their budgets until the end of March, ready for the new financial year which starts in April. RM have already agreed with the CWU to run 37 USO pilots which I think runs until the end of June and imho they are trying to hit the ground running with this universal reform. That is why I believe there are overtime bans in place in most delivery offices. They know that everything isn't going to be delivered but they are still pushing us to try and deliver all the Tracked items.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The CWU have taken a kicking for that awful deal they dished up and they fully deserve it . I voted no to that deal as I thought it was a complete sellout. Having said that I’d rather be in a union than not and I’m hoping they can negotiate something much better in the future.

Doesn't this happen every year, RM sends all the hire vans back, tells all the agency staff to do one, cuts o/t to the minimum, then when it all goes Pete Tong reinstates the o/t.dazzler123 wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025, 16:58Do we know why this overtime ban is in place immediately after raking in a fortune over Xmas? Why don’t you ask your rep instead of making the assumption that just because you are not told of behind the scenes activity, that must mean that nothing is happening and that you are being treated like fungus?worktotime wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025, 19:42really , so they just treating there members like mushrooms then ? , kept in the dark and fed on s**tBarnacle wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025, 16:31I can assure you that the CWU are indeed on this.worktotime wrote: ↑12 Jan 2025, 15:37yeah its disgusting , we was told that it will continue until the new bloke takes over so at least till the end of March , so the job will just be impossible , i just cannot believe the cwu havent been on to this or are they aware that this is happening and doing f**k all about it .,
