Are you saying the RM garages are incompetent/bent then? How would you know this, and if you know it don't you think VOSA do too?

They are halfwits. I've sent my van in 6 times in a row and every time it came back with more things broken than when I sent it in. They don't care as long as the reported fault is fixed. Broken doors, mirrors, switches etc

I remember when they started offering to fix/service employees cars years ago, not sure how long that lasted

More than sure most of our RM fleet is maintained services & MOT’ed by RM employed mechanics & technicians?
If our fleet was sent out to be MOT’ed at an independent dealership garage they would NOT pass the MOT.

Because when vehicles come back from their MOT there are often clear faults that are automatic failures. Yet somehow they're passed.

Cracked light fittings bleeding light / incorrect colour. Lights not working. Tyres below minimum tread or with severe damage. Severely cracked windscreens with damage in the drivers eyeline. Abnormal exhaust smoke.

See vans coming back with that kind of stuff all the time. If they don't sort the obvious basics then the under the hood and structural stuff is not likely to be too diligent either.

VOSA now DVSA left RM alone because we have a high compliance rate, if that starts to slip it would put our O license at risk, no O licence no RM no job.

Do your checks, light not working, put it off road, bald tyre, the same.
Takes 2 min to do them, most are given between 10-30 min to check vehicle.

At my place people aren't doing their daily checks properly. I go to take a van and check and it's got dashboard lights, no fuel at all, no oil, not been plugged in to charge, bald tyres, obvious punctures (ie completely flat) yet they are giving out the keys for you to go drive it. If the depot peeps are giving out the keys then it means nobody has reported the faults. I've reported a few ....go out on my round and then see the van I've reported leave depot behind me because another driver doesn't care. Someone will get in deep doo doo at some point.

Sound like if the police set up a check-point near to your DO, they could do the staff at your DO for varying offences

If they had the resources to do that, they'd also catch many of the other unroadworthy vehicles on the roads and perhaps
some criminals too......
