Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
I think it's fair to say that there will be quite a lot of unofficial pilots taking place alongside the 30 or so offices that have been chosen. I mean, it's been going on for over 4 years now that mail gets left in/brought back.

Exactly and what will the penalty realistically be, peanuts if last year is anything to go by. Anyone lucky enough should be gearing up for EVRs as early as April

Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
It's appeared on our union board. No mentions from management about any changes for us so I can only assume that we'll process the 2C as we normally do and it's going to be down to the DOs to extract the 2C from what we send out to them

Which is what people said from the start.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 07:53It's appeared on our union board. This is going to be an unmitigated disaster - days, weeks of 2C will be getting left to make the pilots work, then they shed the excess staff via VR.

While we're hearing the opposite: the actual savings come from the MC utilising their machines of loving grace to extract them. The man hours lost picking them out at the DO will be immense.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 07:53I can only assume that we'll process the 2C as we normally do and it's going to be down to the DOs to extract the 2C from what we send out to them
The machine stops.

Well they can dream on. There's not the volume of 1C to justify running the machines with just 1C only. 1C and 2C get run together and always willMr Rush wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 19:35While we're hearing the opposite: the actual savings come from the MC utilising their machines of loving grace to extract them. You'll do as your told like everyone else. Within a week no mail will be delivered at trial offices on a Saturday, why waste time delivering a few letters when there are tracked to be done?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 19:47Well they can dream on. Every MC runs 1C and 2C together. If it was just 1C, we wouldn't bother running the machines, we'd just send it out as manual and have all mech staff on packets.citypostie wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 20:03You'll do as your told like everyone else. Funnily enough budget is king in delivery offices and has been for years and that's why they've seen the biggest changes and more cost cutting than anywhere else, just look at whats happening now across the country, no overtime being paid to deliver the walks and if they fail they fail.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 20:10Every MC runs 1C and 2C together. They probably will do that on a Friday, not bother running the machines and keep the 2nd class to be run for Monday morning, like you say send the 1st as manual. They can probably cut a few machine operator jobs as well to save some money

Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
More likely it'd get run Sunday night and then sent out to the DOs Sunday night. Earlies don't have the staff anymore to run the machines. If need be it'd just get sent out sorted to office level only. Only takes a few to be on holiday or sick and nights struggle for enough staff to run the machinescitypostie wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 20:22Funnily enough budget is king in delivery offices and has been for years and that's why they've seen the biggest changes and more cost cutting than anywhere else, just look at whats happening now across the country, no overtime being paid to deliver the walks and if they fail they fail.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 20:10Every MC runs 1C and 2C together. Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
What, you mean an official notice confirmation that it's happening ? I ask as still nothing has been mentioned at our place which is cutting it a bit fine if it's supposed to start next week.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 07:53It's appeared on our union board. You have spare staff in case people go sick?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 20:33Only takes a few to be on holiday or sick and nights struggle for enough staff to run the machines
What do you think happens in delivery? Endless amount of staff to cover for every eventuality
Delivery these days is being shoved from one trainwreck to another but now because of the overtime ban the wrecks are piling up

Re: First class only for 8 weeks?
We've just gone back to prioritising 1C letters again after Christmas period is over. I would say it was over but still is loads of parcels being ordered so you still ain't completing your rounds. It's absolutely mind numbing you have these people lobbing for these changes yet they are still failing to meet the targets. Not much is changing for the better despite union seemingly being more optimistic with the proposed deal.
