Hello,
I was issued an A1 review in December, I know to trigger a stage 2 it is 3 absences or more than 12 days. Will the sickness that triggered my A1 be included towards an A2 or would it be 3 absences after the A1 has been issued. If that makes sense. Thank you!

Re: Attendance advice
yes if its within 12 months , did you not appeal your AR1 if there is something you didnt agree with or something they didnt do right ? and did they tell you that you can appeal in your back to work for stage 1 or stage 2 ?

Re: Attendance advice
I wasn’t given the option to appeal, just got handed a letter saying I’m now on a A1. Ive got the flu, so need to go sick again but no idea if this absence will be the start of the 3 absences/12 days or if the sick that triggered the A1 will also be included. There’s so much different conflicting advice given out about attendance and sickness pay, that it’s got to the point that I haven’t a clue anymore. Not surprising though given the company we work for.worktotime wrote: ↑06 Jan 2025, 20:55yes if its within 12 months , did you not appeal your AR1 if there is something you didnt agree with or something they didnt do right ? and did they tell you that you can appeal in your back to work for stage 1 or stage 2 ?

Re: Attendance advice
The absences of the AR1 is not included in counting towards the AR2, otherwise you'd be getting punished twice for the same absence.
After your AR1 is issued you have 12 months to clear your name!
It's a pretty s**t attendance policy, but maybe it'll be re-negotiated soon.
If you have to take a week off with flu, you still won't trigger.
Remember as well, absences are counted over calendar days, not work days - and you can resume onto a rest day, or a Sunday.
And yes, you can appeal against the issuing of all ARs - for example if you had an accident at work which contributed to the absence, or the absence was related to a condition covered by the Equality Act.

Thank you for clearing that up for me, year I agree I hate the new sick agreement, I slipped a disc in my back last year and ever since then I’ve just struggled to keep my attendance off a warning but with treatment and surgery, it leaves me very little wiggle room for when I’m sick with something like a bug etc. let’s hope it’s renegotiated soon.

Re: Attendance advice
well they should have given you the chance to appeal . and also if they try and give you a ar2 , get the rep in with you and tell them that you are appealing against the AR1 as you wasnt given the chance to appeal by management .Rosie242 wrote: ↑06 Jan 2025, 22:53I wasn’t given the option to appeal, just got handed a letter saying I’m now on a A1. Re: Attendance advice
If you do appeal perhaps you can argue that the slipped disc was at least caused in part by the job - even if not an accident, at least wear and tear.Rosie242 wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 10:49eggraidonmojo wrote: ↑07 Jan 2025, 18:52The absences of the AR1 is not included in counting towards the AR2, otherwise you'd be getting punished twice for the same absence.

Re: Attendance advice
My disc problems were 100% caused from the job, ever since the strikes and lack of staff I’ve been used like a mule clearing double mail etc at least 3 times a week for the past couple of years, started to get slightly better as I’ve recently gotten my own duty after 4 years of service but the damage has been done unfortunately. I will make sure to bring a union member in with me if I do reach an A2, I’m hoping I can at least successfully get my surgery appealed.eggraidonmojo wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 18:01If you do appeal perhaps you can argue that the slipped disc was at least caused in part by the job - even if not an accident, at least wear and tear.Rosie242 wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 10:49eggraidonmojo wrote: ↑07 Jan 2025, 18:52The absences of the AR1 is not included in counting towards the AR2, otherwise you'd be getting punished twice for the same absence.

Re: Attendance advice
Does the new attendance stages etc apply to new contracts/entrants too? The reason I ask is that many of our new people just call in sick and just take the hit on their wages.
