So the question must be asked "Why" they are so interested in us looking at this app, is it a bonus related thing for managers? i for the life of me can't see why they are interested in us looking at these stats, there's nothing in there that is helpful, maybe they think we care and anyone who is scoring badly stat wise will get guilt tripped into working better, faster or more efficiently.
I guess the driving bit could be relevant if the trimble and pda were reliable, but they aren't.
Who knows and who the feck cares, i work as i have always worked and nobody complained before.
The mystery of the performance app will continue until they find something else to concentrate on/take the place of it and that day is probably not that far off.
Has that data increased parcel/mail volumes? No.

You do realise that not everything a manager asks you to do is a reasonable request right? Sometimes you can say "No. That request is unreasonable. Goodbye"LouBarlow wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 21:27You realise you are being paid by an employer right? If they ask you to check an app while they are paying you it is a reasonable request. As I say, you aren’t going to be disciplined for having a ten minute s**t in the toilets but you could me for not doing something you are being paid to do.

Surely you can’t have a loop where there are no items that need a scan whether that be a Tracked or 2D packet/parcel

Re: My Performance app
I do at times as one section I cover with 3 apartment blocks I park in the service road not the busy road main road with double yellow lines for my own safety reasons and sometimes they have nothing to scan.Surely you can’t have a loop where there are no items that need a scan whether that be a Tracked or 2D packet/parcel
I scan everything with a barcode btw.
But I asked because at one time I was covering duties that had not gone out for a week and was just clearing the mail with no tracked but a few barcoded small packets that could fit thro a letterbox.
This is what my direct line manager wanted and I was doing.
He was on a weeks holiday and the covering line manager pulled me up for the previous day demanding I explain why my PDA showed an hour gap between a barcode scan. Exact times were thrown at me by this manager which in fact were incorrect as I had a feeling I was being watched and had wrote down exactly what I had done that day to the minute.
So the question still remains, do you have to carry the PDA on your person at all times ?

Yes you do. The question was asked when they first started to use My Performance as a tracker of us, albeit not live, and the answer was that you have to carry it on you because inactivity is logged as YOU being inactive and doing nothing.menditsa wrote: ↑06 Jan 2025, 19:55I do at times as one section I cover with 3 apartment blocks I park in the service road not the busy road main road with double yellow lines for my own safety reasons and sometimes they have nothing to scan.Surely you can’t have a loop where there are no items that need a scan whether that be a Tracked or 2D packet/parcel

Re: My Performance app
The My Performance app only records Tracked deliveries and Post Box etc collections and driving data, it doesn't log if you are active/inactive, so that info can't be correct? Although given virtually every loop now as a bar code of some kind to scan you now need your PDA with you anyway.Barnacle wrote: ↑06 Jan 2025, 20:02Yes you do. It does indeed track your activity. That function isn’t visible to us currently, but it is there alright.TopperGas wrote: ↑06 Jan 2025, 20:33The My Performance app only records Tracked deliveries and Post Box etc collections and driving data, it doesn't log if you are active/inactive, so that info can't be correct? Do you not remember them going on about circles getting bigger or smaller depending on your activity?

But that data is collected and viewable by those on higher pay grades. Officially used for measuring legitimate inactive such as attendance calls for the purposes of resourcing and route planning.
As far as they will ever be concerned that PDA sitting still is the postie sitting still. If your completing they see scope for adding work to the delivery; and if your not completing the evidence available creates reasonable belief that you are slacking off, which can lead to a conversation, which could lead to unfortunate consequences.

Why do you consider clicking on an app unreasonable while you are being paid to do it? Do you consider clicking on outdoor and scanning in your walk barcode unreasonable too? Why not?Momo90210 wrote: ↑06 Jan 2025, 19:20You do realise that not everything a manager asks you to do is a reasonable request right? Sometimes you can say "No. That request is unreasonable. What you seem unable to grasp is you are an employee not management. Let them worry about micro managing and do the job being asked of you. It isn’t up to you to worry about management bonuses and middle management interactions.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑06 Jan 2025, 17:21Barnacle wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 08:19
The app is part of the bigger fight. It’s part of the drive towards micromanaging to pointlessness. It is yet another addition to the working day which does not increase productivity. It does not increase parcel volumes. It does not impact the sales of 1c. What it is, is yet another cost to the business. Yet another element to keep managers occupied on a computer instead of actually clearing offices. We can add ‘Workplace’ to that list. Facebook/Meta are paid how much for that nonsense? The new Drug & Drink Policy and rehabilitation prog. is also going to be hugely expensive to maintain. Will that increase market share?
I understand that you view not clicking on an app as a petty gesture. That’s completely fine and there are plenty who think the same as you. But I view it as yet another wasteful cost which does not secure jobs, and I have a mortgage to pay.Well said Barnacle. Can't say I disagree with anything you've said.

Some posters find it so difficult to grasp the fact that some OPGs resist these kinds of Micro-Managing Tactics, and (in their opinion) act like petulent children.I in turn find it difficult to understand the type of OPG who just sleep walks into every Bullshit Management Technique, wearing Rose Tinted Glasses, and believing every word their Bonus Orientated Manager spouts.

I would be quite happy to see the introduction of systems, or ideas, which were designed to HELP us do our job, or to make this Business BETTER. Unfortunately the confrontational style management that we've had for decades, and that has been encouraged by the likes of Simon Thompson, seem to turn everything into a box ticking, points scoring, pissing contest between middle management.![]()

I nearly replied to this last night to say it hasn't happened to me in nine years... and then one of my loops had nothing barcoded today. No packets, no recordeds, nothing but [three days] letters. It was very odd considering the volume of Tracked that came in today.
The machine stops.

Re: My Performance app
Interesting one that. I've noticed that the number of Tracked parcels that I actually slipped don't actually tally with what the myperformance app says the following day. For example, on Monday I slipped over a dozen parcels but according to the app I've only slipped ONE. Impressive.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
