Does checking this performance app make my customers be home or have a suitable safe place to leave their repeated orders of cheap needless tat from China? Or do I have to start dumping parcels in bins like 80% of our office to boost my first time delivery scores? It’s all a complete nonsense.
Well I have conversations with my customers as to where I can and can’t leave parcels. It makes life easier not to improve my ‘score’.

I, along with the rest of you, realise this app is of no importance to how i perform on a daily basis. So the question must be asked "Why" they are so interested in us looking at this app, is it a bonus related thing for managers? i for the life of me can't see why they are interested in us looking at these stats, there's nothing in there that is helpful, maybe they think we care and anyone who is scoring badly stat wise will get guilt tripped into working better, faster or more efficiently.
I guess the driving bit could be relevant if the trimble and pda were reliable, but they aren't.
Who knows and who the feck cares, i work as i have always worked and nobody complained before.
The mystery of the performance app will continue until they find something else to concentrate on/take the place of it and that day is probably not that far off.
It would be interesting to see if the FTD and driving/idling scores have improved since they appeared on the app, I'd say they have given you now hear posties talking about them but nobody as even aware of them, let alone talked about them, in the past.

My own idling and driving scores have improved as a direct result of the feedback, and so I I would presume others’ scores have too.

Has that data increased parcel/mail volumes? No.

No, but if it's reduced van idling and unnecessary acceleration/braking then fuel consumption (and so costs) might have come down.
By how much is anybody's guess.

When I cover a rural, I turn off engine at virtually every stop now unless the (van) door to delivery point distance is two steps or they've got a roadside box where I can just wind window down.

Before I used to let it idle at single DP stops most of the time.

But they already had Trimbles collecting info on idling and speeding etc. This additional My Doorstep app is just collating data they already had. It’s an unnecessary addition because the data it is collecting now, is data on you, how much time you spend nattering on the loo etc. That’s the data they will use to performance manage you out of a job.

You get my point though? Whether you check the app or not they have all your data on where you have been and for how long. Refusing to perform a reasonable task is likely to get you into more trouble than your time spent on the loo. Why not check the app while on the crapper?

They have additional data via the app that is about you personally idling, not being fast enough, being too slow at 30, not the van.

Yes they are collecting the data whether I like it or not but I don’t have to bother myself with it because viewing it is voluntary, as per the agreement. So I can’t and nor can anyone else get into any trouble whatsoever for ignoring it.

Do you have to keep the PDA on your person even if you have no scan-able items to deliver ?

Can I leave the PDA in the van while I'm out delivering a loop ?

If you leave it in the van it will record that you were stationary for however many minutes the loop took.

You realise you are being paid by an employer right? If they ask you to check an app while they are paying you it is a reasonable request. Just as you agree to scanning tracked parcels in or likewise. You can’t refuse to do that either.

As I say, you aren’t going to be disciplined for having a ten minute s**t in the toilets but you could me for not doing something you are being paid to do.

I fully expect there's much more being recorded that is not presented in My Performance, likely pending future rollout when the union eventually caves in. It'll get more granular and, critically, be available live both to you and your manager - taking micromanaging to unaparalleled heights:

The app is part of the bigger fight. It’s part of the drive towards micromanaging to pointlessness. It is yet another addition to the working day which does not increase productivity. It does not increase parcel volumes. It does not impact the sales of 1c. What it is, is yet another cost to the business. Yet another element to keep managers occupied on a computer instead of actually clearing offices. We can add ‘Workplace’ to that list. Facebook/Meta are paid how much for that nonsense? The new Drug & Drink Policy and rehabilitation prog. is also going to be hugely expensive to maintain. Will that increase market share?

I understand that you view not clicking on an app as a petty gesture. That’s completely fine and there are plenty who think the same as you. But I view it as yet another wasteful cost which does not secure jobs, and I have a mortgage to pay.
:Applause Well said Barnacle. Can't say I disagree with anything you've said. :thumbup

Some posters find it so difficult to grasp the fact that some OPGs resist these kinds of Micro-Managing Tactics, and (in their opinion) act like petulent children. :speak to the hand I in turn find it difficult to understand the type of OPG who just sleep walks into every Bullshit Management Technique, wearing Rose Tinted Glasses, and believing every word their Bonus Orientated Manager spouts. :hmmmm

I would be quite happy to see the introduction of systems, or ideas, which were designed to HELP us do our job, or to make this Business BETTER. Unfortunately the confrontational style management that we've had for decades, and that has been encouraged by the likes of Simon Thompson, seem to turn everything into a box ticking, points scoring, pissing contest between middle management. :cuppa
