Parcels Are Way Down

Post by Barnacle »

As the title suggests, it isn’t just mail but parcels too that have dropped like a brick.

They forecast before Christmas that it was going to be monumentally heavy and Christmas just wasn’t that heavy at all. The numbers on Christmas 2024 will be interesting.

But back to my main query, are MCs staffed as usual? Are we really getting all there is, because if we are it’s pretty abysmal.

For example, I only had 24 tracked items today. That’s been unheard of.

Unless some of the DOs locally had loads of direct yorks, packets were down MASSIVELY. In past years we've struggled for storage space for the work to be sorted. No such problems this year, in fact there's been a few times where there's been no work to bring in from the warehouse. Think the inward packets may have even run out of work a few times.

Xmas casuals as normal, we don't hold anything back at Xmas pressure. I don't work in distribution but I believe that as soon as there's a lorry load of work for a DO, the lorry gets loaded and sent straight off to the DO

Well thank f**k parcels were down this Christmas, I only had to leave half my mail daily to get them done, could have been worse perhaps I got off lightly.

In other years we have had a few loops of parcels taken of us by a postie who is delivering Christmas packets but that didn’t happen at any point this time and the only time it was overwhelming was Black Friday Fortnight.

Many Yks don’t need to venture beyond the load/unload area in mail centres. More than half of Yks I take to mail centres are sorted by parcel hubs to go directly to DO.

Only 2 or 3 DOs locally get direct yorks and that doesn't explain why packets are massively down

Obviously know nothing about distribution then if you think as soon as a lorry load of work is ready to go to do it goes..lanes are jam packed everyday 1 lorry can only take so much.

Never seen it so busy and never ever had so many tracked.

These few days in between Christmas and new year we averaged about 90 tracked alone and that’s without what the dpr duties were doing.

Either you don't even work in a MC or your distribution manager is incompetent. Our distribution manager, if there's enough yorks of work to fill a lorry, if the driver isn't on a break, they're told to load up to capacity and go :cuppa

Tracked and non-Tracked get sorted together and get sent out to the next MC (outward) or to the DO (inward) mixed together.

Def work in mc an maybe ours work diff from yours as majority of drivers deliver to do,s an do collections think most of them have 2 separate runs each.so deliver say to derry in morn then back to mc with collection 1hr 30min drive there an 1hr 30min back prob have break there aswell.then obviously off to a closer office rinse an repeat.
