Thinking of getting out in 3/4 years , work our asses off and every year they are out to get us with something else . Every year more more more for less. Its tiring and draining listening to the bs . Work so hard during xmas as we do all year , then start of year were not good enough again.
This is true.

We used to have it easy in the summer to make up for December. That was the well understood tradeoff until lapsing came along.
The machine stops.

It just isn’t enough money unless you have another job lined up but even then, you will have the insecurity of being the new starter somewhere.
Yes I agree Barnacle  However When I put this to a visiting Senior CWU Rep he it put it this way:

''Yes VR terms were reduced to 9 months from 104 (FFS :mad ) during the last attack on our T&Cs. RM will increase this to 12 months as ''Good Will'' (Ha Fcukin Ha) There's 3 months Pay In Lieu Of Notice (PILON), It'll probably be paid Tax Free as its under 30K, which gives you approx another 2.6 months So you looking at about 17.6 months of pay''. :hmmmm

As he put it to me, ''You can work that extra 2 years for the added 6.4 months extra cash OR you could take the money and get another job, perhaps PT but with certainly less BS''!

Food for thought my Friends. :cuppa

I thought the latest round of talks was to lead to 11 000 part timers being made full time?
I can't see the business handing out 11 000 full time jobs to then start handing out VR to full timers.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The pay in the contract is usually quoted as the annual salary based on full time wages, with full time now being 40 hours.

Unless newandscared is prepared to post the details from the top line of their pay slip, this question is practically impossible to answer on the forum. Assuming they are a postie (OPG) who has joined since November 2022 the hourly rate should be £12.54 outside of London. I can't find any vacancies advertised that attract the London weighting, so can't post the hourly rate for that.
Can different areas give a different wage. Because as I have tried to say I am not getting the 12.54 people keep saying. it's about 12.58 (not eligible for supplements as new joiner) which means either I'm being paid wrong or everyine else at the same grade and role is. This is what I mean by a proper payscale. I'm used to having a pdf issued once a year that says everyone at this grade in this role earns 12.57 if you live in Greater London area it's this much etc. What we are being given is wishy washy ambiguous BS that none of use can properly challenge if we think there is a mistake.

The unions communication on this is disengenious, all it is is that it gives the opportunity for part timers to move to full time on legacy contracts, whereas before they would have had to move to the new starters terms and conditions. It doesn't mean that 11k will be made full time.

Claret and blue you are wrong. The joint statement states that approximately 11 thousand will get the opportunity to accept the offer of an increase in their contracted hours up to and including full time from 1st January 2025.

We are in talks with Royal Mail including identifying those who will be offered this opportunity. More details will come out in early January. Please do not play this down as for 11 thousand part timers this is a good news story.

You know whichever way RM cut the cake they're ALWAYS going to get the Biggest Slice Clash.

I agree that any Company looking to reduce staff levels doesn't have to pay any VR. With a Churn like ours many thousands leave the job every year, throw in a load of Bullshit Changes and some H&B from Managers and I'm sure they'll hit their target.

We all know RM would love to get more Staff on these Crap New Contracts and get rid of EVERYONE on the Old Legacy Contracts because it saves/makes them more MONEY :cuppa

Claret you can’t force someone to increase their contracted hours you have to ask them and they will get asked.

People are taking it literally that 11k will be made up, that isn't true, that's what I was pointing out, we have part timers at ours who are happy with the flexibility, don't have to work w@nky Wednesdays ect.

Martin thanks for your comments on here, there's a post a few up from this suggesting RM will be offering an enhanced VR option of 12 months plus 3 months pilon, do you know if there is any truth in this rumour ?

Martin I also have a question. As all the senior staff left in our office and 90% are on new terms.
If they get moved from part time to full time will they automatically be on legacy contracts as they seem to think this is the case?
Thanks

I think I can answer that one,it looks like the answer is unfortunately no, if you download attachment two in this ltb
https://www.cwu.org/ltb/ltb-398-24-uso-pilots/
then it explains that it refers to people who are on legacy contracts and they will stay on them when their hours are increased.

Revised VR terms will be agreed no later than 3 months after completion of the deal:
