Biggest sellout the union ever made. Sick pay should never have even been on the negotiating table. When they gave that up I knew that they really had lost the plot!

Royal Mail were threatening to give 3 months and change everyone’s contracts. Royal Mail were paying 250 million in sick leave. They also wanted the second absence to be a week at SSP.

The union reached an agreement which reduced this to two days but also meant if absence reduced to 5.5 for a 6 month period then SSP will be removed. It has reduced from 7.8 to 5.7%.

We have also agreed with EP that within 3 months of the transaction we will improve the sick pay arrangements.

Yes Well done Martin, I have a condition which does cause me to have just one day off at a time. I have had only 3 single days off due to this since this bollocks came in. That has cast me 2 days pay, and every day I may be sick will cost me further days pay. You let us down, and made a total balls up for members and new entrants. The other shitter is it's 12 months before a stage is removed, was previously 6 months, can't remember what the criteria is, 4 absences or 14 days or something but as someone on stage one for the 1st absence in years I'd prefer that to be restored, I never took the piss but ended up on stage one after an accident at home, dreading catching something that would normally just require a couple of days to shift as I'm certain people go in when they're really not fit to and consequently infecting others.

For years people on this board were convinced all we had to do was strike at Christmas. We'd have them by the balls and they would have to concede to our every demand, so their argument went.
We went on strike at Christmas and guess what?

So for every critic of the union on here perhaps instead of just criticising, you could outline the alternative strategies that would have a positive outcome.
