So how was your 2024 Xmas at Royal Mail ?

First of all Merry Christmas eve too all

We all know Royal Mail is tough at every Xmas. With soo many parcels. And there’s also the good side. The tips and chocolates boxes and presents and alcohol.

So here’s my questions and answers.

1 Q
Did you get parcel support help ?
1 A
Yes. Most of the days we got parcel support. The parcel guy takes packets off 5 duty’s and he took all the big massive packets.
Only the day here and there we didn’t get parcel support has it was the parcel guys day off or someone went sick.

2 Q
Did your office clear parcels everyday ?
2 A
Yes our office was clear of parcels everyday. No backlog.

3 Q
Did you clear your walk everyday Mail wise ?
3 A
Yes I cleared my walk every day. It wasn’t easy. If it wasn’t for the parcel support help it would be impossible to clear Mail everyday. I was left with all small tracks and still had over 100 tracks.

4 Q
Did your office have a raffle prize giveaway over the Xmas period ? Where they pick names from 1 tray. Then pick gift from another tray.
4 A
No but they promised us one they will but they didn’t. I heard in a nearby office they had a raffle.

5 Q
How did you do on Tips/Chocolate boxes/Biscuit boxes/Gifts/Alcohol ?
5 A
I do really well on tips every year. I know all my customers well. I don’t get much on my new bit (When they made the walks bigger) but on my original walk I get loads. 4-5 tip me over £50 -£100. One guy on my walk was waiting for me 1 day. He opened the door with a £50 note. Shocked me. Most of the others tip me with £5-£10-£20 notes. Theres 1 road with 17 houses they usually do a collection for me every Xmas in a box or a big envelope. There’s this one house they offer me alcohol or cash. I always choose alcohol to give to my Dom manager lol. But this year I will go for the cash lol. There’s 2 other houses only offer alcohol bottles so I just take em. There’s also a pub on my walk offers me red or white wine. I do well on chocolate boxes/Biscuit boxes. Let’s just say I have give em away to friends/family has I can’t eat it all lol.

This year proved that it's either letter carrying or it's other products. Peak 2025 won't be recognisable. Every failure was a nail in the coffin of the job. As ever the CWU had nothing to say about it.

CWU have been complicit in the uso failure, it’s been deliberate for a long time now.

We knew that the car crash was going to happen last Xmas and it was an eye opener when the big bosses came down and this was due to the managers pretending that mail had been marked down as "cleared" all year, when it hadn't. This was all due to the forced revisions which they introduced and received bonuses for and then pretended that everything was hunky dory. So when Xmas came and they flooded our office with agency workers it was just money wasted imho as many of them were neither very well trained nor up to speed.

They haven't put in any new duties in our office but they have brought in more regular staff all year taking loops and parcels off us. There hasn't been any backlog because there are more permanent staff employed and to be fair it has made this Xmas more manageable. It's just a shame that there has been no real bonus incentive for us but has instead gone to the same managers who screwed up our office last year! As for tips, yeah, I got plenty of them but not many on the extra bit that is still on my round but then again I rarely did it all year. :thumbup
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Sounds like our office about 10 years ago.

Fast forward to 2024 and losing so many staff in the lead up there was only 1 outcome.
Parcel relief was practically non existent, same with tips.

Tiring... praying Kretinsky comes in and fixes everything otherwise I don't think I'll be staying too much longer if things don't get better.

I ask for a manageable workload, fully staffed office (no 2 days mail) and more options in terms of flexible working/hours.

I think you'd better start job hunting now.

failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

christmas was easier than the rest of the year back to lapsing that will be harder with no staff, double mail etc, christmas only time fully staffed, now with people on annual leave soon be back to a shitshow, lapsed not enough duties covered, less time to do it in
