LOL indeed.Londonsburning wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 16:54Lol it was the Tories who introduced the 'universal' payment. Paying tens of thousands of pensioners who are financially better off than most 'millenials' the winter fuel allowance. How on earth is that starmers governments ineptitude?
Nearly six months in and Starmer and his supporters are still blaming the useless Tories?
Funny thing is that Labour fully supported the Winter Fuel payments at the time, but now it's something bad and should be cancelled?
Maybe Starmer and co have forgotten that in just the same way that they've happily forgotten about all the heart-felt pledges to compensate the WASPI women.
How many more promises and pledges will this bunch of incompetents break if they manage to last for the full five years?

The winter fuel payment isn’t being stopped. What IS being stopped is the universal payment of it to any pensioner regardless of income.Tman wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 21:01LOL indeed.Londonsburning wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 16:54Lol it was the Tories who introduced the 'universal' payment. Why the WASPI women should be compensated for ignorance I have no idea.

Re: Freezing this Christmas
Nor me, but the entire Labour cabinet (when in opposition) happily made speeches etc for compensation to be paid.
Clearly they thought they knew more than us regarding the morality of the situation.....when it suited them.

In Ireland pensioners over 70 get free TV licence and an allowance to help with electricity, gas and telephone costs, including a winter fuel allowance of 460 Euros.

Re: Freezing this Christmas
So you dont think that maybe theres been some thought and research and long term planning thats gone into these decisions by Labour? Clearly they need to find some £££ from somewhere - to begin sorting out some of the problems the country is in. The fact the Conservatives were in power for 14 years suggests they might hold some culpability for these problems, no?Tman wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 21:01LOL indeed.Londonsburning wrote: ↑22 Dec 2024, 16:54Lol it was the Tories who introduced the 'universal' payment. Where would you target to raise the £££?

Well on the plus side, it would be an end to kicking the old dear into a care home. As long as you had a pensioner in the house you could heat it as hot as the sun without a care in the world.

Eventually they will say you don't need a state pension as you have a Royal Mail pension. They'll always find a useful idiot who agrees

I think it was the Conservatives who introduced private pensions. I’m sure it will also be them that decides to do away with the state pension if you have a private pension.

Re: Freezing this Christmas
Absolutely LOL.
"Thought and research"? Are you joking?
Starmer and co have stumbled from one poorly thought-out decision to the next, and thanks to Thieve's budget the economy is now flat-lining and second worst in the G7 in front of Italy. Well done Rach, but maybe you should have stayed in the customer complaints department which was clearly the limit of your talents.
This time last year the UK was the top-performing economy in the G7, so clearly any of that "thought and research" was "back of a fag packet" standard.
Then again, if Starmer and co actually planned to cut the Winter Fuel Allowance it was never mentioned in the run-up to the election. Duplicious at best, out-right and cynical lying to the electorate at worst.

There's been nothing to be impressed about, but plenty to think "WTF?"
The UK deserves a lot better, just as Labour promised in the run-up, but that soon went to rat-sh*t.
