Does anyone even bother with the official "cutting off procedure" these days?

I think most in our office just crack on, prioritising ( tracked, NHS, 1st class etc), then bring some back without even a word to managers when they've had enough.

You're more likely these days of getting moaned at if you follow procedure... you tell a manager you bought stuff back they see it as an opportunity to lay into you....

the ones who just go home without saying anything get away with it with not a word from a manager.

Probably true what was said about getting grief from manager by following procedure, I have to in my DO, only have 8 duties so manager comes round asking if we will complete.

We take one side of mail & all the tracked, one does packets, one does mail, if it's raining we drive round together, do the tracked then the mail, we never ever tell our manager anything, if we bring anything back, we bring it back, it's just accepted, we have never ever cleared the frame since the revision, we always exercise last letter & do not go over by one second.

"Manage your own frame" ........... seems like sensible advice all round.

Makes sense to manage your own workload. Most people won’t take the piss too much if left to organise themselves.

This could save RM money by taking management hours out of offices

Since the revision, most haven't even managed to complete a walk for ages. This year, I could count how many times I could complete the walk with just one hand. End of the day, it's their mess they created and it's not like I'm finishing earlier once done either. Not spending five -ten minutes debating with them on something they could have fixed years ago now since the agreement. They choose this, not us.

Just manage my own workload now. So long as the Tracked get delivered and the mail leaves the building for a ride around then the managers seem happy enough.

All I will say is be very careful.

Yes, all staff and managers know that many of the walks are often unachievable in the time but there is still a process that you should follow at all times. We have had posties dismissed in the past for bringing mail back and just because your manager might turn a blind eye to it, if they are under pressure they will obviously target any posties who are guilty of any possible misdemeanours and believe it or not, wilful delay ,does fall under the conduct code should they wish to pursue it for any reason.
