A West Lothian postie rescued an elderly woman who had collapsed in the snow while he was on his mail rounds.

David Reynolds intervened when he saw the woman “soaked through” beside the bin on her property on Saturday, December 7.

The West Lothian resident has been a postal worker in the village of Longridge for 30 years and said the incident was the “scariest thing” he’s “ever had to deal with” in his three-decade career.

David told Edinburgh Live : “I was delivering mail to a lady's property when I saw her bin and the lady lying beside it.

“I got out of my van and saw the lady was soaked through to the skin. I managed to get her up and take her into her house and sat her down.

“Her house phone was ringing so I answered. It was her son who was trying to contact her. I reassured him she was alright.

“I took her wet jacket off her and sat with her to make sure she was dry. I then went to a neighbouring croft and the gentleman there was a nurse who went and looked in on her.

“After my delivery I went back to check on her and she was with family. In my 30 years being a postman, that was the scariest thing I've ever had to deal with.”

David added on social media: “I well and truly got the fright of my life. I’m so glad I was there to come to her aid. I have just been and seen the lady after I finished and she's okay thankfully, just bumps and bruises.”

The Longridge Community Association posted on social media to express their gratitude for their local postman, saying: “Just wanted to put up a wee note of appreciation for our posty David Reynolds who came to the aid of a woman in the village this morning. He found her on the ground soaking wet, helped her, got in touch with her family and stayed with her then still got on with his rounds! We love and appreciate you, Dave!”

ImageDavid Reynolds and his brother Craig Reynolds have both been post carriers in West Lothian for three decades.

Residents commented on the post to share their appreciation.

One commented: “Well done Davy, true gentleman and a great postie. As said before we are so lucky to have such a great guy doing our post....always cheerful even on the wettest of days.”

Another penned: “Best postie ever, nothing is ever a bother for him and always goes that extra mile to help someone, we are lucky to have such a caring man.”

A third shared: “A true gentleman and an fantastic postie always a good laugh.”

David and his brother Craig Reynolds are both West Lothian post carriers. Craig has been delivering post for 31 years in Bathgate and says that the “public part of the job and getting to know people is the most rewarding.”

David added that he loves “giving back to the community”.

Well done Dave. Excellent "Postperson"
God help us all. Even Dave called himself a Postman.
I'm amazed they have put "Rescues Woman" in the header.

Well Done Dave! Proves what an asset Posties are to their Community. :thumbup

I'm surprised the RM Public Relations Team didn't swing into action and Slip all the Local/Regional/National Management ''Team'' into the photo! :left:
Probably because you're up in Lothian and too far from London! :left:

Hope you get some significant recognition from RM. :cuppa
