I believe that the manager will look at the Trimble reading, because he has a bee in his pants about it, and it will show that you did the van check and he’ll assume you drove 100% of the time. I'm going to tackle him about it and if the evidence points in my direction, I'll take full responsibility and slow down BUT I know I wasn't speeding on this road because the part I drove was short, winding, and narrow and it's impossible to go over 20

Re: Trimble
A few years back we had a manager who pulled me for doing 40 in a 30. I asked him for the exact location, he gave me it and i informed him that was impossible, stunned he insisted i was, i informed him the road he told me was a new development and currently half built with no tarmac, he then insisted it must be the main road that leads to the new development as it runs parallel to this road, i informed him it had a 40 speed limit. Some people are just idiots, he still insisted i was speeding somewhere as the info can't be wrong. Ok i said prove it and i will hold my hands up...... never heard anything else.annem wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 19:44I've been pulled up twice now for going 5mph over the speed limit according to Trimble.
What I want to know is are they accurate?
What is the evidence to prove it happened and the manager isn't MAKING IT UP?
Can they pinpoint the EXACT location and the EXACT day (for example, if it happened on Satarday, could they say it was Monday)
Who inputs the information onto the PDA? Is it the manager?
Is there anything I can put in the van to monitor my own speed and use as evidence to prove I am not speeding?

Re: Trimble
Have managers not got anything better to do than to keep checking up on posties? Even if you've been speeding or idling or have brought back 30 parcels to be redelivered the next day. If you haven't been stopped by the police what is the manager going to do, give you a fine and penalty points? The last guy who got caught speeding (twice) in our office was taken off driving. He absolutely loved not having that responsibility!

Re: Trimble
No system is perfect. Vehicle speedometers are all calibrated differently which is why you can appeal speeding offences. The variations can be quite significant. Long and short is that until it becomes a disciplinary matter it's irrelevant.annem wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 19:44I've been pulled up twice now for going 5mph over the speed limit according to Trimble.

Re: swapping drivers, be very careful of that, if you’re signing for the keys and doing the van check it should be you driving, not changing drivers while out on the round. We had a few issues with dents, speeding tickets and people blaming each other.
As for the Trimble, I’d simply ask for full details - exact location, time, and when the Trimble was last calibrated. Write it all down in front of the manager.

My colleague jumped in the van to deliver a special when I was still delivering mail. I had no idea about it until after it happened so couldn't stop it either way.HTPostman wrote: ↑11 Dec 2024, 09:23Re: swapping drivers, be very careful of that, if you’re signing for the keys and doing the van check it should be you driving, not changing drivers while out on the round. Is there a rule as to how often Trimble are meant to be calibrated? And if they haven't been calibrated for a while does it mean they are not accurate?

Re: Trimble
It flags up above your manager he just passes on the message. Ask to see that data it maybe that u just left or just entered a zone but the gps has been slightly off. downloading 2 apps seems like overkill it’s Royal Mail not MI5annem wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 20:29Thanks for the replies, but telling me to slow down is not helpful when I said I wasn't speeding.
I WAS NOT SPEEDING. Just like the Horizon people were not stealing. I don't trust Trimble in the hands of my manager and I believe it's a tool that can be used against me.
I've now got two accurate speedometer apps downloaded onto my phone
Also, has anyone ever asked their manager to show the evidence? And if so, what exactly have you been shown?

Managers have never got anything better to do. They are all the same.Barnacle wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 21:19Ask him for the date, time, and exact location. That is what he is using it for - a stick to criticise- and I am fed up with it and want to prove him wrong because I know he is wrong.Barnacle wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 21:01I don’t think 20 mph zones are legally enforceable anyway? The road I was on never has had a 20 zone, manager didn’t know what to do when I told him.Barnacle wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 20:17The Trimble uses GPS to locate where you are and through mapping it ‘knows’ the speed limit on each road you use and so it feeds this data to the desktop of your manager.
It’s a day late rather than live and it doesn’t always know about variations due to roadworks etc.
Only solution is to slow down and stick to the speed limit.
But anyway, a manager can only use it as a stick to criticise you because unless it was a speed camera or the police, what are they actually able to prove?

Re: Trimble
I had a Trimble I asked to be calibrated 3 times before I left. The damn thing would be beeping while you’re sat in neutral at traffic lights. No way would I allow something like that be used to conduct me.annem wrote: ↑11 Dec 2024, 10:56My colleague jumped in the van to deliver a special when I was still delivering mail. In my opinion, if you ask for full details of the incident and Trimble details, the manager will simply mumble be more careful in future and move on.

What is your manager going to do? My manager has no right to speak to me like he's telling off a child. He has no right to accuse me of something without showing me the EVIDENCE. Evidence that is 100% certain.postslippete wrote: ↑11 Dec 2024, 05:59Have managers not got anything better to do than to keep checking up on posties? Re: Trimble
That should never happen. The person who signs the van out is legally responsible for ANYTHING that happens with the vehicle.
Letting an unauthorised person drive it , and anything they do in it, is your fault.

Re: Trimble
How are you going to stop them if they have a key?
Ask nicely.
If they continue then what?- you either have to grass them up or refuse to work with them.
I suppose either of those is preferable to arguing the toss over a speeding ticket.
