The job as a "postman" is unsustainable. The harsh reality is post is dying and what's left of it is expensive to deliver.
The best option for posties is a 5 day USO - Mon-Fri - This is when most businesses who receive the bulk of their post work. The idea that we get a Wednesday off is laughable.
Saturday will be doubled up packets between 2 duties - The union know this and are selling it as a "every other Saturday off" sweetener.
Delivery supplement will go and the basic rate will increase "above inflation" - currently at 2.4%
The union as far as I'm concerned were beaten at the last pay deal and are no longer respected - the same man is still "leading" our negations after bending over and shafting his members in the "biggest fight of our lives".
If you are young enough, get out... Get a trade or retrain. The job is dead

What's happening to our jobs has nothing to do with sustainability and everything to do with profiteering. Think about the job at the out break of COVID. It was slowed right down and it was brilliant. As soon as the capitalists realised they were losing they reverted to type and sped the job back up. There's more than enough work and the job could last forever. It won't whilst we're being exploited to make massive profits for the capitalists. The CWU has brought the idea hook, line and sinker that it needs to go faster for longer. It doesn't but that's what happens when a union is dominated by clowns who don't do the job, couldn't do the job, wouldn't do the job and never will do the job.

Apart from the left-wing crap, you are pretty much spot on. "Capitalists" as you call them are just owners/investors in a business who hope to get some sort of return/profit for the money invested. Hard to argue that point as nobody invests to lose money.
It's the expectations of this business that need to be clipped, trying to basically bully and harass a workforce into slogging their guts out is the main problem. We aren't machines and judging by most things mechanical in RM we break down less, but there is a pay off, we can't keep it up long term.
The physical demands of the job limit what we can do, xmas used to be a four week slog now it's a 52 week one.
How you get these victorian working conditions changed is where the union should be.
Union talks absolute shite. Our last revision has absolutely ripped the guts out of our office. f**k knows how many reliable staff have left (full and part time). Constant Merry go round of new starters who last 2 weeks then f**k off because the office is a disaster. 120 hours taken out when the office was already on its knees! Every single duty failing, nearly every day!!! What have the union done? Nowt. f**k all! Despite us constantly complaining about it. Not interested. The CWU is done, finished. Ward and Walsh are f***ing clueless. Do they really think Kretinsky wants to work with them?? He's having you on, stringing you along like a pair of gullible idiots, while you're boasting 'how you've got a seat at the table' in negotiations!!!
You do know the Union weren't in charge of your revision, Royal Mail was?
It's amazing how many posts on here blame the CWU for Royal Mail's actions.
Of course the CWU is to blame. They facilitate it all.
How do the CWU "facilitate" it? They don't run the company. RM can make whatever changes they want, whenever they want, within the law.

Then the union relays it to the members. They're falling into the role of executive officer. We gripe and then Martin Walsh comes on to laboriously lay out points 1 to 235 of the company's agenda, so get back in formation.

The CWU facilitate it because they do nothing to stop it. There is no rank and file organisation. There is no industrial or political education. The CWU is simply acting as an agent of the employer.

That's just not true though. The Union clearly always argue against the bad things the company wants to do, and try to argue for changes for the better.

Problem is RM aren't making any profits, I've no idea why not given the volume of parcels we're expected to deliver, but the fact is RM is loss making, possibly they are cooking the books but why do that and so get less '£'s for their shareholdings when we're sold to DK?

To pretend they don't is just daft.
The only one pretending here is you. From the local level up they've never opposed the 'bad things'.

Why do you have a paid meal relief?
I'll wait.
Because it's one of the last benefits we have that they haven't negotiated away... yet, oh wait they already have negotiated that away for every new start in the last 2 years
My main two gripes with the CWU were they never actually asked what issues we wanted addressing. In my opinion there should be a poll or questionnaire asking us to feedback on what bothers us the most, can do it yearly. I’m sure for most of us day release for union reps and taking payment through payroll were not high on the agenda.
Secondly, communication is abysmal. From Dave Ward’s ‘emerging scandal’ or whatever it was, to uneasy to read press releases. Even union officials themselves - while I’m appreciative of Martin Walsh coming on here to explain things, and I know he’s not obliged to (but then, why wouldn’t the CWU want a presence on the only online place that allows anonymity for its members)….the guy was nowhere to be seen for 10 months, just one (now deleted) post. Then suddenly he’s here discussing harmonising contracts.
You can understand the growing pessimism everytime the latest CWU communication is released.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
MW has taken his ball home because he got so much grief the last time he came on.
No, he doesn't HAVE to come on here, but why shouldn't he?
After all it's part of his job to find out the mood of members- he mentioned about visiting offices but the feedback he claims to get from those doesn't anywhere near reflect our office.
You're just left to fend for yourselves, and I'm sure the same goes for most other offices.
As above, when was the last time the union actually asked its members what's important to them?
The union is dead and buried I'm afraid.
