Amber weather warning on Saturday, 7 December for parts of: NW England, Northern Ireland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, SW England, Strathclyde and Wales

Red and Amber weather warnings:

The Met Office has issued a Red weather warning for very strong winds, associated with Storm Darragh, in parts of South West England and Wales on Saturday, 7 December 2024. Due to the impact of the adverse weather conditions, there may be some disruption to mail delivery, collection, and distribution. To ensure our people's and customers' safety, severe weather risk assessments will be conducted based on local knowledge. Although we will strive to maintain our services in areas where it is safe to do so, the safety of our people is our top priority.

The Met Office Red weather warning covers parts of the following areas between 3 am and 11 am on Saturday, 7 December 2024.

The Met Office has issued an Amber weather warning for Storm Darragh on Saturday, 7 December 2024, which covers parts of the following areas between 1 am and 9 pm on Saturday, 7 December 2024:

How does the weather affect my deliveries?
When there is severe weather - such as significant snowfall, icy conditions or localised flooding - your street or some of the roads on route to your address may become too dangerous to access. We will always make every attempt to get your mail to you daily, if it’s safe for us to do so. Our postmen and women may start their rounds but are unable to finish them because of issues along the way. Conditions can improve or deteriorate quickly, so we undertake risk assessments throughout the day to ensure we’re doing all we can to get to as many addresses as possible. And we always work hard to return to full services as quickly as it’s safe for us to do so.

Hahaha some people really are richard heads. It's drummed into us for years now that if it's too dangerous don't do it, we are meant to self access the risks and decide for ourselves.
RM say we will try our best but some places might not be able to complete due to very dangerous weather conditions, the met office have issued the warnings as a danger to life, but sure park into the wind and put your waterproofs on that'll keep you safe.

Government emergency alert has just sounded on phones across South wales and parts of the west of England
Instructions to stay indoors, that it is unsafe to drive, and prepare for power cuts.

No instruction from RM management can reasonably overrule that.

Thankfully in this neck of the woods RM management are being incredibly silent and not causing any confusion

The only time we have had a red warning they sent us home.

If the company dismissed a red weather warning they would be wide open to legal action. Deliveries must be cancelled for the duration and locations the warning is in effect.

A red weather warning indicates that ‘dangerous weather is expected’ and that you should take action to keep yourself and others safe from its impact.

We put the safety of our people first and the Health and Safety team has been working in consultation with the CWU on a risk assessment that takes into account the Met Office advice.

We are asking colleagues to attend work on Monday and Tuesday, but recognise that as a result of the weather warning there will need to be some additional checks and processes in place.


This will include checking the Met Office website and recalling colleagues to the office if the temperature reaches 35 degrees C or above as follows:

· The Severe Weather Risk Assessment process must be followed and the temperature checked using the Met Office Red risk rating on an hourly basis Link
· For any geographical area that has a Red weather warning the Met Office website should be checked and during the time that the hourly temperature indicates Red (35 degrees C or above) all outdoor operational activity must be suspended. For an Amber warning, suspension decisions should be reviewed locally through the Severe Weather Risk Assessment Link

Bad weather has always happened. But obviously there is now a agenda so they give it a name , 24 hour news coverage, risk assessments etc. I wonder how many visits to pubs will be cancelled on Saturday night after a risk assessment ? The wind will die down Monday and it'll be forgotten until next week's end of world warning.
