Re: Parcel volume yesterday and today
Inward packets were being stored in the canteen this morning because of lack of floorspace (49 yorks at the bullring). I would estimate around 10,000 packets across 70 duties. I leave it to the reader to deduce what impact that had on letter delivery.
We hit capacity last week but we just keep bursting through those ceilings...

Could be a Monday in February, could be a baking hot day, could be Mothers Day, could be six foot of snow, could be vans broken down, could be a weeks mail after annual leave, could be an election, you have a start & finish time, use it & everyday the same, eat sleep repeat

Was reading yesterday that Yodel have got capacity issues so possibly some retailers are switching some of their parcel traffic over to RM

And unfortunately unlike us, when it gets busy they can't just down tools and leave a big part of their work that their customers have paid for.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Dec 2024, 07:09Was reading yesterday that Yodel have got capacity issues so possibly some retailers are switching some of their parcel traffic over to RM

Close! 8,000 Tracked delivered yesterday, and say 10-20% carded on top. My other rougher estimate was 49+x yorks filled with an average of 128 items ≈ >6,000.
Volume was clearly down today.

Re: Parcel volume yesterday and today
It seems obvious yesterday was the busiest ever for Tracked etc in RM, so how can we still not be making decent profits but we were during COVID, surely the test kits were bringing in an extra £500m+ alone?

When I left just after 3.00 pm this afternoon, there were at least 100 Yorks of large parcels and packets already in for tomorrow. Glad it’s my rest day tomorrow!

Re: Parcel volume yesterday and today
who knows how much royal mail got for the test kit service.
but for this year, during the first 6 months (quiet time) ids/ royal mail made overal profit of 61 million compared to loss of 300+million in same time last year. revenue up around 10%.
revenue was up in parcels and despite less letters they still made profits due to the increase in prices.

Re: Parcel volume yesterday and today
All I know is I'm sick of seeing 4 sacks of full packet bags by my fitting every morning, fed up of scanning and taking pics at what seems like almost every other house, the time wasted doing all this. I cant see things getting to much better after Xmas as the packets and parcels just seem to be getting more and more no matter what time of year.

Re: Parcel volume yesterday and today
So are these extra Amazon parcels part of the USO? Amazon don’t have a problem telling you your parcel will arrive tomorrow now when it’s busy and that’s fair enough. Not sure why managers are getting so worked up about clearing every tracked item.

I don't believe any Tracked parcel is part of the USO? You do wonder what happens if we fail to deliver every Tracked item every day, surely the business as to accept Black Friday week is particularly busy and it's virtually impossible to deliver everything every day?kazardaimenu wrote: ↑09 Dec 2024, 06:12So are these extra Amazon parcels part of the USO?
