I wouldn't mind coming off my duty in sh*tsville that I've been on for years to do something different but the only thing on offer is working as either a reserve or spare and from what I've seen most of them don't seem to like those duties as they often moved from pillar to post at short notice. I also like the thought of knowing what my day off is each week.
Maybe that will change in future if there are innovative duty patterns?

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Adding extra 20 minutes work to a duty
Definitely a lot to be said for each side, and some of it is office and employee related.
For me, I did like the reliability of my own duty, I knew what to do, when to do it, always knew if I was behind or ahead etc, so that was great. However it did also get a touch boring from time to time, so covering does have an advantage there.
At the moment, Covering is a wet dream, doesn't matter if you don't clear, not your problem. If its your duty, f**k it, let the cover deal, or just cut off on your days and let it continue.
It depends a lot on you, the office, and the situation. I never mind going over on a genuinely bad day to finish for my customers, but I've no intention of going over to complete a job that is too large or has been screwed over by a cover being bad at it.
