Letter: Royal Mail is 'not bothered with keeping their word'

AT 10.02am on Friday, November 29, I posted a very small letter for guaranteed next-day delivery by 1pm.

I paid £10.02 plus £3 supplement for a Saturday delivery. As of Sunday, December 1, it was at the Swindon office, today the 2nd it is in Basingstoke awaiting delivery.

Now I ask myself is Royal Mail inept, incompetent or are they not bothered with keeping their word.

I would suggest that by taking the Saturday delivery supplement they are in breach of contract and that should be refunded.

It would have cost me a gallon of petrol to deliver the letter myself, guess what I will do next time?

Cllr J F Budzynski

They should be paying compensation on top too.

Don't know how or why RM can charge a Saturday supplement when Saturday is a normal working day. It was different back when we done 2 deliveries and Saturday was in essence only 1 delivery and finished early. Doesn't make sense, just conning the public who know no different.

Because unless you pay for it, there is no guarantee a Special Delivery will be delivered on a Saturday.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The irony/irritation being that a T24 posted on a Friday might arrive on the Saturday or Sunday, whereas a normal Special Delivery is (officially) Monday if posted on a Friday.

Jan Budzynski is a Conservative councillor so he would have supported privatisation of Royal Mail and 'modernisation'.
He is also responsible for what has happened.
