Adding extra 20 minutes work to a duty
After 15 years I,ve finally been offered my own full time duty.
But on the proviso that I have another twenty minutes work added onto the round. Now since our last revision this duty has already had 44 new drops added to it because of a new road.If I refuse to agree to this the manager says he will advertise the job next march and I will go back to being a reserve.
Can they just decide to add extra to a duty or are they just trying it on.Trying to reason with this manager is proving very stressful to say the least, some advice would be most helpful.

Sign for it, if you can't complete the duty bring it back or book the overtime
Likely that duties as we know them are going to have a major rethink in the very near future anyway

A manager shouldn’t be offering you a duty. If the duty is vacant it should be advertised along with any other vacant duties for anyone to apply for.

It’s only 20 mins lol. Go for it mate. Saves u getting messed about every morning. At least u will stay on the duty. A little extended overtime won’t harm anyone unless u don’t want go over your time

I know this may divide opinions, but why (I'd be interested to hear) is getting your own duty seen as the pinnacle of achievement in RM? OK, I accept what day you're off improves. Is there a long list someone can fire back how it's a brilliant thing to have?
Doesn't it get a bit, er.., boring? Same round, same streets, same people, everyday, day after day. Would it not be quite nice to see something different in your village, town, or city?
I bounce around all over the office at the moment and have previously bounced around different offices and kind of get a buzz over doing something different.

A guy at ours had an extra couple of loops added to his frame when he was off sick. He has extended his sick leave.

I agree it's overrated it also has it's downsides like stuck with two days mail when you comeback off day off, stuck with d2ds all week, and like you say it gets boring not to mention if you get a s**t partner.Basildon Bond wrote: ↑03 Dec 2024, 05:24I know this may divide opinions, but why (I'd be interested to hear) is getting your own duty seen as the pinnacle of achievement in RM? That's not how duty selection works. What's the CWU doing about it?

I guess we are all different, I have my own single duty in a nice area and I like it. I’ve been with aresholes in the past so it’s great to be on my own and I know what I’m walking into every morning. Loops have recently been taken off after I picked it so it’s all good. Day off covered too.

i assume you dont bounce around walks that have 4 days worth of mail to clear. Currently why we are losing new startersBasildon Bond wrote: ↑03 Dec 2024, 05:24I know this may divide opinions, but why (I'd be interested to hear) is getting your own duty seen as the pinnacle of achievement in RM? Re: Adding extra 20 minutes work to a duty
I've been in the job long enough that I've bounced around pretty much every street, farm, industrial estate and retail park in the town. It's all a bit boring so the routine of a fixed round isn't really an issue.Basildon Bond wrote: ↑03 Dec 2024, 05:24I know this may divide opinions, but why (I'd be interested to hear) is getting your own duty seen as the pinnacle of achievement in RM? True. Double mail is about as bad as it gets.dazzler123 wrote: ↑03 Dec 2024, 16:53

Good to hear people's opinions on getting a fixed duty. I sometimes ask people if they would move duty and I possibly, maybe, see - just for a split second - a thought in their eyes of something better, easier, perhaps different. Then they snap back to thoughts of harder, longer, different duties that they don't know and decide they are best off where they are - better the frying pan than the fire. They offer arguments like they know where to leave parcels, or they know the people. I'm fairly sure 3-6 months on a new duty and they would know the route, safeplaces, and people well enough to be happy.
