Plan B 2025
Think everyone just about knows now that there will be voluntary redundancys on offer sometime in 2025 , for me on a personal basis I was going to go in 2027 when I'm 55 , get a lump sum and small pension and work part time elsewhere, but if 12 months redundancy pay is achieved by the union in 2025 ,I think I would take it and get a full time job elsewhere, let's face it they want staff with long service to go and to be replaced by people on much inferior working terms & conditions, I think there will be a stampede for workers to leave , spoken to many people who've left royal mail and got othere less stress free jobs either part time or full time and nobody has ever regretted it .most have said they'd wished they'd got out sooner ,This new owner will 100 % asset strip royal mail not immediately but over a period of time , used to love this job it was enjoyable but bot anymore , if redundancys do come up in 2025 the best of luck to you all if you accept it and move on .

Re: Plan B 2025
Am not sure there will be, we have vacancies in about every office in the area, the turnover the last 18 months has been crazy, plus RM USO plan imo like everything else they cost for savings will be miles off initial plans, what they are suggesting will not be effective in most of the small rural offices.

It'll be interesting to see how much they offer if VR is on the table can't see it being 52 weeks though more likely 16 or 24 weeks

Exactly what I'm thinking, I'll be next to be offered it when it happens and they won't even see me go out the door lolcomeracing wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 11:19Think everyone just about knows now that there will be voluntary redundancys on offer sometime in 2025 , for me on a personal basis I was going to go in 2027 when I'm 55 , get a lump sum and small pension and work part time elsewhere, but if 12 months redundancy pay is achieved by the union in 2025 ,I think I would take it and get a full time job elsewhere, let's face it they want staff with long service to go and to be replaced by people on much inferior working terms & conditions, I think there will be a stampede for workers to leave , spoken to many people who've left royal mail and got othere less stress free jobs either part time or full time and nobody has ever regretted it .most have said they'd wished they'd got out sooner ,This new owner will 100 % asset strip royal mail not immediately but over a period of time , used to love this job it was enjoyable but bot anymore , if redundancys do come up in 2025 the best of luck to you all if you accept it and move on .

Re: Plan B 2025
What incentive do the CWU have to secure better redundancy terms for people who will be leaving the workforce and so likely stopping their union membership thereafter?
They are more likely to be concerned with the new starts terms and securing their future membership whilst the majority of them are disenfranchised after learning of the two tier workforce after joining

If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

That makes sense to me too, I wondered if it would be more of a case of royal mail offering it if they thought it would ultimately become cost effective.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 13:16What incentive do the CWU have to secure better redundancy terms for people who will be leaving the workforce and so likely stopping their union membership thereafter?

Re: Plan B 2025
Depending on who gets offered VR at our place, I can't see the uptake being very high. A lot of people who have 'quietly quit' over the last few years won't take it by their own admission - where else would they get 5-6 weeks holiday a year and left to do as little as they can get away with - their own words.
Which is why I have this niggling thought that other criteria will be used who gets offered VR, then CR. They've been collating a hell of a lot of data from us all over the past 5-6 years for instance.

P&O proved that it is not necessary to offer redundancy to replace existing workers with casualised labour. It's about time Ward and Walsh and all the idle bag avoiding bureaucrats got off their knees. You don't fight a DP World by sitting in cosy meetings chatting bollocks. We save this industry and save our jobs by taking action, now.

P&O weren't a UK based company so not they are not really relevant to RM.tramssirhc wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 14:59P&O proved that it is not necessary to offer redundancy to replace existing workers with casualised labour. TBH who's really going to say they made a big mistake and would love their old job back?comeracing wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 11:19Think everyone just about knows now that there will be voluntary redundancys on offer sometime in 2025 , for me on a personal basis I was going to go in 2027 when I'm 55 , get a lump sum and small pension and work part time elsewhere, but if 12 months redundancy pay is achieved by the union in 2025 ,I think I would take it and get a full time job elsewhere, let's face it they want staff with long service to go and to be replaced by people on much inferior working terms & conditions, I think there will be a stampede for workers to leave , spoken to many people who've left royal mail and got othere less stress free jobs either part time or full time and nobody has ever regretted it .most have said they'd wished they'd got out sooner ,This new owner will 100 % asset strip royal mail not immediately but over a period of time , used to love this job it was enjoyable but bot anymore , if redundancys do come up in 2025 the best of luck to you all if you accept it and move on .
If the new owner does decide to asset strip RM then it's hardly going to effect it's employees who'll still get paid for working. If you left RM and worked p/t for Asda or Morrisons stocking shelves etc are you really going to worry about what the owners are doing? Regardless DK has no prior history of asset stripping.

Think you will find that the P&O scenario won't be allowed to happen again, for a while anyway, the government would leap on anyone trying it from a great height.tramssirhc wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 14:59P&O proved that it is not necessary to offer redundancy to replace existing workers with casualised labour. People don't forget, at least not for a few years.
Plan B 2025 is probably to get the USO change and Dan the man into power, followed by more whipping and beatings for the workforce as Plan B fails miserably and us lazy, overpaid posties will be held accountable.
Metaphorical whipping and beating, just to clarify. We haven't made it to the physical ones just yet!

Just a wild stab in the dark considering the way RM has been hemorrhaging 'legacy' staff over the last couple of years and a new owner on the horizonderekm wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 17:44So your saying they will pay less than the 39 weeks that you get now ??Londonsburning wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 11:36It'll be interesting to see how much they offer if VR is on the table can't see it being 52 weeks though more likely 16 or 24 weeks![]()
