These 50 stamps are worth £82.50. I am pretty sure most posties would prefer £82.50 be added to our Christmas £ bonus we typically get, rather than get stamps....


Not for me, I'm a new contract 30 hour so the cash payment would be pro rata as with the normal xmas bonus. But yeah I agree most will give some to family members, I prob buy around 3 or 4 stamps a year so 50 will last years

A few people saying they won't use the stamps, it's not just sending a letter don't forget you can use multiple stamps on parcels to pay for the postage in a post office for your eBay etc stuff, that's what I do.

(for some reason not applicable for buying tracked in a post office but ok for regular or special delivery)

Surely sending us stamps doesn't help the business, I am sure many of us give them away. I give mine away to various family members and they pretty much never have to buy a stamp ever again.....not good for Royal Mail. 100,000 posties giving away up to 5 million stamps to the public.

It's costing the business a lot less than £82.50 to give us those stamps and a card.

Anyone know if we are getting our usual quota of Christmas stamps this year? If we are when might we receive them?

Pretty certain it's one of the benefits we offer to try and attract new starters so we should be receiving them.

Am new and got some in the post today. Haven't sent a letter for donkeys years though.

Nope. All family and friends in the same city so would just visit in person.

Half mine go the the mil, the rest go in a draw.
It costs the business in that family that get them given then don't go on to buy them themselves.
So it's a lot of money they're giving away really.

You think that its just the cost to print them that is the money they lose? and not the fact that they are distributing out 5million stamps to the public so they can use our services for free?

What would have been a fair comment in a discussion against what I said is that these stamps won't be used up for years - which is true, but then again the value of stamps goes up over time so I could argue that giving out stamps costs the business more in the long run than it does if they gave us £82.50 instead of the stamps.

If you give out stamps then people spend less on Royal Mail services as they have free stamps gifted to them by their postie friend / family member...

An argument against this could be that this is what Royal Mail want - they want to kill off the letters service. If they make less and less money on stamps then the faster the USO gets reduced.

They must have been planning that for the last 30+ years then!

Our local postmaster buys them off our posties this year's going rate is £45 he always says tell your mate.

We don't get taxed on the stamps, regardless of their monetary value. And that £82.50 would end up pro-rata, so after tax you'll wish you had the stamps.
